“You Don’t Fit My World Anymore” — He Divorced His Billionaire Wife on a $41 Cab Fare. She Owned…

Chapter 11

Victor Hale didn’t deny anything.

That was what frightened Daniel most.

When Mia confronted him in the boardroom, Victor simply smiled.

“You finally found out.”

Mia’s eyes hardened.

“You killed my father.”

“I didn’t.”

“You helped arrange his death.”

“I helped arrange a transition.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“You’re insane.”

Victor laughed.

“No. I’m practical.”

He looked at Mia.

“Your father was too sentimental.”

“About what?”

“You.”

Mia froze.

Victor walked around the table.

“He thought you should own everything.”

Daniel said,

“And you wanted it.”

“Of course.”

Victor didn’t even bother denying it.

“Do you know how many people spend their lives working and never get near the kind of money your father controlled?”

He stared at Mia.

“Then you appeared.”

“I was a child.”

“Exactly.”

His face tightened.

“An obstacle.”

Mia’s voice was cold.

“You tried to kill me too.”

“Several times.”

Daniel moved toward him.

Victor smiled.

“Careful.”

Two security guards appeared.

Daniel stopped.

Victor continued.

“Your ex-husband is exactly why this became difficult.”

Mia looked at him.

“What do you mean?”

“Daniel was supposed to take the blame.”

Daniel frowned.

“For what?”

“Fraud.”

Victor explained the plan.

Evidence had been fabricated to show Daniel had secretly diverted company funds.

Once Mia divorced him, Victor would expose the fraud.

Daniel would go to prison.

Mia, emotionally shattered, would become vulnerable.

The board would pressure her to sell.

The fortune would pass to Victor’s network.

Daniel’s face turned white.

“The forty-one dollars.”

Victor smiled.

“Perfect, wasn’t it?”

Mia stared.

“You planted the idea.”

“Not exactly.”

Victor looked at Daniel.

“I simply made sure he was emotionally ready.”

Daniel clenched his fists.

“He thought our marriage was failing.”

“It was.”

Victor turned to Mia.

“You made it easy.”

Mia’s eyes filled with rage.

“You underestimated me.”

Victor laughed.

“Did I?”

He pressed a remote.

A screen displayed bank accounts.

Mia’s private assets.

Trust structures.

Properties.

Everything.

Daniel saw how much power Victor had been trying to gain.

Then Victor made one mistake.

He opened a file labeled:

Thomas Hawthorne — Original Patent Transfer

Daniel recognized the signature.

“It wasn’t Richard.”

Victor stopped.

“What?”

Daniel pointed.

“The authorization.”

He knew because his own father had been a corporate lawyer.

He had seen the signature style before.

“It was forged.”

Mia looked at the document.

Then at Victor.

Victor’s smile disappeared.

“You don’t understand what you’re looking at.”

Daniel did.

“This transfer was never legal.”

Mia picked up her phone.

“Neither was your entire claim to the patents.”

Victor stepped backward.

Outside the room, police sirens began to rise.

Mia had prepared the evidence.

Victor turned toward the doors.

They opened.

Federal investigators entered.

For the first time, Victor looked afraid.

Mia whispered,

“You should have checked the woman you thought was powerless.”
