Waitress Said, “Sir, My Mother Has a Ring Like Yours” — The Billionaire Froze When He Heard It
Chapter 7
Daniel returned to Whitmore Global before sunrise.
The building was surrounded by security.
Executives waited in the lobby.
Phones were ringing.
Lawyers were shouting.
The company’s financial systems had been locked down.
Daniel walked straight into the executive conference room.
“Who accessed the trust?”
The chief financial officer looked terrified.
“We don’t know.”
“Then find out.”
“We’re trying.”
Daniel slammed the file onto the table.
“Someone moved twelve billion dollars.”
Nobody spoke.
Then Lena entered.
The executives looked confused.
Daniel said:
“She stays.”
Nobody questioned him.
The investigation began.
Every transaction was traced.
The money hadn’t disappeared.
It had been divided into dozens of accounts.
Most were offshore.
But one account stood out.
A domestic account.
Daniel recognized the bank.
It belonged to Whitmore Global.
He called the bank.
The account was registered under the name:
Thomas Reed.
Lena stared.
“That’s my father’s name.”
Daniel looked at her.
“The man your mother said was your father?”
“Yes.”
“But he wasn’t.”
Evelyn had already confirmed it.
Richard was Lena’s biological father.
So why had someone created an account under Thomas Reed’s name?
Daniel investigated.
Thomas Reed had been a real person.
A private investigator.
He had worked for William Whitmore.
And he had disappeared twenty-three years ago.
Daniel’s security chief found an old photograph.
Thomas was standing beside William.
And beside them was Marcus Hale.
Daniel recognized the pattern.
The three men had been part of the hidden organization.
But Thomas had apparently left.
Or been forced out.
Daniel traced his last known location.
A small town in Oregon.
He and Lena flew there.
Thomas Reed was alive.
He lived under another name.
When Daniel showed him the photograph, the old man’s hands began shaking.
“You found them.”
“Found what?”
“The rings.”
Daniel nodded.
Thomas sat down.
“I wondered how long it would take.”
“You know about the trust.”
“Yes.”
“Who stole it?”
Thomas looked at Lena.
“I don’t know.”
Daniel leaned forward.
“You worked for my grandfather.”
“I did.”
“You helped hide my sister.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because your grandfather wanted her gone.”
Lena’s face hardened.
“Gone where?”
Thomas looked ashamed.
“He planned to send you away.”
Evelyn had refused.
Richard intervened.
That was when the conflict began.
Thomas explained that William had built a secret network around the family fortune.
But after his death, several executives continued operating it.
The current leader wasn’t an outsider.
It was someone Daniel had trusted for years.
Thomas gave him a name.
Daniel stared.
“No.”
Thomas nodded.
“She is the person who has controlled the trust.”
Daniel’s own chief financial officer.
The woman who had worked for him for fifteen years.
The woman who had supposedly protected the company’s finances.
Daniel called her.
“Where are you?”
She answered calmly.
“At the office.”
Daniel looked at Thomas.
Then said:
“Don’t leave.”
She laughed.
“You already know.”
Daniel’s stomach dropped.
“Know what?”
“That your father didn’t die naturally.”
Silence.
She continued.
“He was killed because he refused to cooperate.”
Daniel clenched his jaw.
“Did you kill him?”
“No.”
“Then who?”
“You’ll never reach him.”
Daniel asked:
“Where is the money?”
“Safe.”
“You stole twelve billion dollars.”
“I protected it.”
“From whom?”
“From you.”
Daniel stared.
The call ended.
Then Lena’s phone buzzed.
A message appeared.
Your mother has been taken again.
Below it was an address.
Daniel looked at Thomas.
The old man whispered:
“They’re forcing you toward the final vault.”
