Sophie stared at him.

Sophie looked at him.

He nodded.
“Then what should we do?”
“Protect everyone.”

Parents were required to attend meetings.

Madison was suspended.
Her father tried to argue.

That evening, Daniel picked her up.

Sophie got into the car.
“Are you proud of me?”
Daniel smiled.
“Very.”
“Even though I almost quit?”
“Especially because you didn’t.”
Sophie leaned against the seat.
“I thought being rich would make everything easier.”
Daniel laughed softly.
“It makes some things easier.”
“Not everything.”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“Did you ever have people treat you differently because of money?”
“Every day.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I wanted you to discover it yourself.”
Sophie smiled.
“That was cruel.”
“Maybe.”
They drove home.
Neither noticed the photographer waiting outside the school gates.
The next morning, photographs of Sophie and her father appeared online.
