They Bullied The “Poor” Girl… She Was a Billionaire’s Daughter
Chapter 10
Sophie’s foundation eventually expanded internationally.
But she never stopped visiting small schools.
She preferred them.
One afternoon, she visited a rural school where a young boy had been bullied for wearing old clothes.
The principal told her:
“He hasn’t spoken in class for months.”
Sophie asked to meet him.
She found him sitting alone beneath a tree.
“Hi.”
He looked up.
“Hi.”
“What’s your name?”
“Lucas.”
“I’m Sophie.”
“I know.”
She laughed.
“Of course.”
He looked at her.
“Are you really rich?”
Sophie smiled.
“Yes.”
“Like billionaire rich?”
“Something like that.”
Lucas thought.
“Then why are you here?”
Sophie sat beside him.
“Because I know what it’s like to be laughed at.”
He looked surprised.
“You?”
“Me.”
“Why?”
“Because people don’t always need a reason.”
Lucas nodded.
“They call me poor.”
Sophie looked at him.
“Does being poor make you less important?”
“No.”
“Then don’t let them convince you.”
Lucas looked down.
“I wish I could be like you.”
Sophie shook her head.
“Don’t.”
“Why?”
“Be better than me.”
He smiled.
“How?”
“Be kind when people aren’t.”
Lucas thought.
“That’s hard.”
“Yes.”
“Then why do it?”
“Because it’s worth it.”
Years later, Lucas became one of the foundation’s scholarship recipients.
He became a teacher.
Then a counselor.
Then a director of one of Sophie’s programs.
Whenever someone asked why, he gave the same answer.
“Because someone once sat beside me under a tree and told me I wasn’t worthless.”
Sophie never told him she remembered that day.
She didn’t need to.
Some moments didn’t require recognition.
