The Twin Sisters Rescued a Baby Left Beside the Garbage — Then Refused the Millionaire’s Reward and Exposed a Terrible Secret
Chapter 6
Three days later, the police returned.
This time, Detective Aaron Bell came alone.
He was broad-shouldered, tired-looking, and carried a paper coffee cup with a lid that didn’t quite fit.
“I need to speak with you,” he told Lena.
“About Noah?”
“Yes.”
Lily and June immediately stopped playing.
Bell noticed.
“You girls can stay.”
He pulled a chair close to the door.
“We found security footage from McKinley’s.”
Lena leaned forward.
“What does it show?”
“A woman entered the alley shortly before six.”
“Rachel?”
“We don’t know.”
Bell slid a photograph across the table.
The image was grainy.
A woman in a dark coat stood beside a black SUV.
Her face was turned away.
But there was something in her posture.
She was holding something.
A baby carrier.
Lena’s fingers tightened around the photograph.
“She brought him there.”
“Yes.”
“Then she left him?”
Bell nodded.
“That’s what it appears.”
“Why?”
“We don’t know.”
Lily looked at the picture.
Then at the carrier where Noah slept.
“That’s not the right car.”
Bell looked at her.
“What?”
“The car.”
Everyone turned toward Lily.
She pointed at the photograph.
“That’s not the car.”
Bell frowned.
“You’re sure?”
“I saw one that morning.”
June nodded.
“It was bigger.”
“What did it look like?”
“Black,” Lily said.
“Most black SUVs look alike.”
“It had a silver thing on the back.”
Bell leaned forward.
“A spare tire?”
Lily shook her head.
“A circle.”
June added,
“And one light was broken.”
Bell’s expression changed.
“Like this?”
He pulled out his phone and showed them a photograph.
Lily stared.
“That one.”
Bell sat back.
The vehicle in his photograph belonged to Vale Security Services.
A private security company owned by Marcus Vale.
