The Rich Neighbor’s Black-Belt Son Challenged a Single Dad—Unaware He Was a Navy SEAL
Chapter 12
Months later, Charles invited Daniel to dinner.
The Whitmore house no longer felt intimidating.
Ethan opened the door.
“You’re late.”
Daniel looked at his watch.
“I’m two minutes early.”
“Same thing.”
Lily walked inside.
“Is there dessert?”
Charles laughed from the dining room.
“Your priorities haven’t changed.”
Dinner was simple.
No business.
No security.
No threats.
Just food and conversation.
Afterward, Charles and Daniel stood outside.
“I owe you an apology,” Charles said.
“For what?”
“For assuming money made me powerful.”
Daniel smiled.
“Money can solve a lot.”
“Not everything.”
“No.”
Charles looked at him.
“You saved my son.”
“Your son helped save my daughter.”
Charles nodded.
“Then I guess we’re even.”
Daniel smiled.
“Maybe.”
Inside, Ethan was showing Lily a martial-arts move.
She tried it and nearly fell over.
Everyone laughed.
Daniel watched them.
He realized something.
The richest family in the neighborhood had once looked at him as a nobody.
Now they considered him family.
And Ethan, the arrogant black-belt teenager who had challenged him, had become one of Lily’s closest friends.
Life had a strange sense of humor.
