The Rich Neighbor’s Black-Belt Son Challenged a Single Dad—Unaware He Was a Navy SEAL

Chapter 7

Ethan was the one who discovered the hidden connection.

He had been searching through his father’s business files when he found a company name he didn’t recognize.

It was listed as a security contractor.

Ethan remembered seeing the same name in one of the police reports.

He confronted his father.

“What is this?”

Charles looked at the document.

His face changed.

“Where did you get that?”

“Your office.”

“You shouldn’t have been there.”

“Why are these people connected to us?”

Charles sat down.

“Because I hired them years ago.”

“For what?”

“Security.”

Ethan frowned.

“Why?”

Charles hesitated.

“Because someone threatened me.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

Ethan realized something.

His father wasn’t lying.

He was genuinely afraid.

That evening, Ethan went to Daniel’s house.

Daniel opened the door.

“What do you want?”

“I found something.”

Daniel let him in.

Ethan placed the document on the table.

Daniel read it.

His face hardened.

“This company isn’t a security firm.”

“What is it?”

“Private intelligence.”

Ethan swallowed.

“Can they find you?”

“They already did.”

Ethan looked confused.

“Why are they after you?”

Daniel stared at him.

“Because of something that happened overseas.”

“Did you kill someone?”

Daniel didn’t answer immediately.

“People died.”

Ethan looked down.

“Was it your fault?”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

“Then why are they blaming you?”

“Because the people responsible disappeared.”

Daniel folded the document.

“And now someone wants me to take the blame.”

Ethan realized something else.

“That’s why you moved here.”

Daniel nodded.

“Years ago.”

“Then why stay?”

Daniel looked toward Lily’s bedroom.

“Because she deserves a normal life.”

Ethan lowered his eyes.

“I used to think you were weak.”

Daniel smiled faintly.

“I know.”

“I was wrong.”

“Yes.”

Ethan almost smiled.

Then Daniel’s phone rang.

A message appeared.

A photograph.

Charles Whitmore leaving his office.

Then another.

Ethan leaving school.

Then Lily.

Daniel’s expression became completely still.

“They’re watching all of us.”

Ethan looked frightened.

“What do we do?”

Daniel stood.

“Now?”

He looked toward the window.

“We stop waiting.”
