The Billionaire Left the Same $10 Tip Every Morning… Until She Finally Asked Why
Chapter 6
Two weeks later, Clara’s younger sister, Emma, was injured in a car accident.
Clara left work immediately.
She spent three nights at the hospital.
Daniel didn’t ask questions.
He simply appeared.
With coffee.
Food.
A phone charger.
And a folder.
Clara looked at it.
“What is this?”
“Your sister’s hospital paperwork.”
“You went through it?”
“No.”
He pointed to the top.
“I had someone make sure you weren’t being overcharged.”
Clara stared at him.
“You can’t just do that.”
“I can.”
“That doesn’t mean you should.”
Daniel paused.
“You’re right.”
He took the folder back.
“I’ll leave.”
Clara grabbed his sleeve.
“No.”
He looked at her.
“Thank you.”
It was the first time she had accepted help from him.
Not because he was rich.
Because she trusted him.
Emma eventually recovered.
Clara returned to the café.
Daniel was waiting in his booth.
She placed his coffee down.
“You missed me?”
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Only the coffee?”
“No.”
He looked at her.
“I missed you.”
For once, Clara had no clever response.
She walked away before he could see her blush.
But the man across the street saw everything.
That evening, Daniel received a message.
We need to talk.
He deleted it.
Another arrived.
Your father’s old property records were never destroyed.
Daniel froze.
He called the number.
A man’s voice answered.
“You need to stop digging.”
“I haven’t been digging.”
“You’re restoring the old buildings.”
“What does that have to do with you?”
“More than you think.”
The call ended.
Daniel sat in silence.
For twenty years, he had believed his father’s death was an ordinary tragedy.
Now someone was telling him otherwise.
