Single Dad Was Dared to Dance With the Cold CEO — Then She Whispered Something Unforgettable
Chapter 12
Three months later, Daniel received an unexpected promotion.
He became regional operations director.
But there was a condition.
He had to move to headquarters.
Normally, he would have said no.
Emma hated changing schools.
But Victoria had already thought ahead.
She found a position for herself in the new company structure.
She didn’t offer Daniel money.
She didn’t buy him a house.
She didn’t pull strings to control his future.
Instead, she asked one question.
“What does Emma need?”
Daniel smiled.
“A place that feels like home.”
So they found one.
A quiet house near a small school.
A backyard.
A tree large enough for a swing.
For the first time since Laura died, Daniel allowed himself to imagine a family future.
But one problem remained.
He hadn’t told Emma what Victoria meant to him.
Not completely.
He sat beside his daughter one night.
“Emma?”
“Hmm?”
“There is something I want to tell you.”
She looked up from her book.
“You’re marrying Victoria.”
Daniel blinked.
“How did you know?”
“You’re not subtle.”
He laughed.
“No, I’m not.”
Emma smiled.
“Are you happy?”
Daniel thought of Victoria dancing with him.
The warning in his ear.
The first time she’d laughed.
The way she’d cried in his arms.
“Yes.”
Emma nodded.
“Then I’m happy.”
Daniel hugged her.
“You know you’re always my first girl.”
“I know.”
“What about Victoria?”
Emma grinned.
“She can be the second girl.”
Daniel laughed.
Later that evening, Victoria arrived.
Daniel met her outside.
“What did Emma say?”
“She approved your application.”
Victoria smiled.
“That sounds serious.”
“It is.”
She wrapped her arms around him.
“I was thinking.”
“That’s dangerous.”
“I know.”
She kissed his cheek.
“I want to do something.”
“What?”
“I want to stop being afraid.”
“Of what?”
“Everything.”
She looked toward the house.
“I’ve spent years building walls.”
Daniel took her hand.
“You don’t have to tear them down all at once.”
“I know.”
She squeezed his fingers.
“But I want to start.”
That weekend, Victoria visited Laura’s grave with Daniel.
She stood beside him quietly.
“I don’t know if this is strange.”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
Victoria placed flowers down.
“I didn’t know her well enough.”
“But she knew you.”
Victoria swallowed.
“She asked me to protect you.”
Daniel looked at the grave.
“She never said anything to me about you.”
“She didn’t have time.”
Daniel took Victoria’s hand.
“I think she’d be happy.”
Victoria cried softly.
Daniel held her.
For years, grief had been something that separated him from the future.
Now, standing beside Laura’s grave with Victoria, he realized something.
Moving forward did not mean leaving Laura behind.
It meant carrying her love into something new.
