“Emma.”
The little girl shrugged.
“I like you.”

“Why?”
“Because he smiles more when you’re here.”

When Daniel returned, he found them sitting on the floor surrounded by crayons.
He stopped in the doorway.
“You’ve been recruited.”
Victoria smiled.
“Your daughter is very persuasive.”
Emma looked at him.
“I told her she could stay.”
Daniel laughed.
