My Husband’s First Love Became My New Boss and Fired Me — She Had No Idea Who Really Owned the Company

Chapter 2

Olivia drove home in silence.

Her husband, Ethan Hart, was already there.

He stood in the kitchen wearing an old gray sweatshirt, making coffee.

“You’re home early.”

Olivia put her bag down.

“I was fired.”

The mug in Ethan’s hand stopped halfway to his mouth.

“What?”

“Victoria fired me.”

His face changed.

“Victoria?”

“Yes.”

He put the mug down.

“What happened?”

“She says my department is inefficient.”

“That’s ridiculous.”

Olivia looked at him.

“You know her.”

It wasn’t a question.

Ethan hesitated.

“Not well.”

“She’s your first love.”

He looked away.

“That’s old history.”

“She seemed very confident today.”

“What did she say?”

“Nothing important.”

Ethan stepped closer.

“Olivia.”

She raised her hand.

“I’m not angry with you.”

“Then why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because I don’t understand why she hates me.”

Ethan was silent.

“She barely knows me.”

He lowered his eyes.

“Maybe she doesn’t.”

Olivia studied him.

“Did she know about us?”

“Probably.”

“And she still fired me.”

“Then she’s being unprofessional.”

Olivia laughed.

“You sound surprised.”

“I am.”

She walked toward the bedroom.

Ethan followed.

“I’m sorry.”

“I know.”

“Do you want me to talk to the board?”

“No.”

He stopped.

“Why?”

“Because I don’t want my husband calling his company’s board because his wife lost her job.”

The words came out bitterly.

Ethan looked at her.

“Olivia.”

She turned.

“What?”

“There’s something I need to tell you.”

She waited.

He looked nervous.

That was unusual.

Ethan was normally calm.

Controlled.

Even when things went wrong, he rarely panicked.

Now he seemed afraid.

“I’m listening.”

Before he could speak, his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen.

Then stepped outside.

Olivia watched him through the window.

“Yes,” he said quietly.

She couldn’t hear the rest.

Five minutes later, he returned.

“What was that?”

“Work.”

“At home?”

“Sometimes.”

She looked at him.

“You said you worked from home today.”

“I did.”

Something didn’t add up.

For years, Ethan had described his career as private investment consulting.

He rarely discussed details.

Olivia had never pushed.

Their marriage had always been based on mutual trust.

But now Victoria had entered their lives.

And suddenly, every unexplained part of Ethan’s world looked different.

That night, Olivia opened an old drawer.

Inside were documents Ethan had once asked her to store.

She had never looked through them.

Now she did.

The first page was a corporate ownership document.

Her eyes widened.

At the bottom was Ethan’s full legal name.

And beside it:

Controlling Shareholder — Sterling Meridian Holdings.

Olivia stopped breathing.

Her husband wasn’t simply connected to the company.

He owned it.
