My Husband’s First Love Became My New Boss and Fired Me — She Had No Idea Who Really Owned the Company
Chapter 13
On their fifteenth wedding anniversary, Ethan surprised Olivia.
He took her back to the small restaurant where they had eaten their first dinner together.
The place was still there.
Same brick walls.
Same tables.
Same owner.
Olivia laughed when she walked inside.
“You remembered.”
“I remember everything.”
They sat in the corner.
He ordered the same meal.
She smiled.
“You were poor when we met.”
“Technically, I was pretending to be poor.”
She laughed.
“That’s an important distinction.”
He took her hand.
“Would you change anything?”
She thought about it.
“Maybe.”
“What?”
“I wish you had told me sooner.”
“I know.”
“I wish Victoria hadn’t fired me.”
“Definitely.”
“I wish we had never discovered the money.”
He looked surprised.
“Really?”
She smiled.
“No.”
She squeezed his hand.
“Because if we had known everything from the beginning, we might never have learned what trust actually means.”
He nodded.
“That’s true.”
She leaned closer.
“You know what I learned?”
“What?”
“Your first love wasn’t my enemy.”
He smiled.
“No.”
“She was just part of your past.”
“Exactly.”
“And your secret wealth wasn’t what scared me.”
“What did?”
“Losing the man underneath it.”
He kissed her hand.
“You never did.”
