My Father-In-Law Gave Me A 40-Page File And 3 Days To Resign — Then I Checked The Letterhead…

Chapter 11

The room went silent.

Daniel looked at Susan.

“Who was?”

Susan’s eyes moved toward Richard.

Richard lowered his head.

“Tell them.”

Susan took a breath.

“The person behind everything was my brother.”

Claire froze.

“Uncle Jonathan?”

Susan nodded.

Daniel remembered the name from the old contracts.

Jonathan Harrison had supposedly died years earlier.

But apparently, he hadn’t.

“He created Northstar Holdings,” Susan said.

“Victor worked for him.”

“Your father discovered the network.”

“Thomas discovered it too.”

“Then why did Jonathan remain hidden?”

“Because he owned the money.”

Daniel felt a chill.

“Where is he?”

Susan shook her head.

“Still alive.”

“Where?”

“I don’t know.”

Richard spoke.

“I do.”

Everyone turned.

“You knew?”

“Yes.”

“Where?”

Richard looked at Claire.

“At Hale Industries.”

Daniel understood.

Jonathan was inside the company.

Maybe he had been there for years.

They returned to the headquarters.

Richard called an emergency executive meeting.

Every senior executive was required to attend.

One by one, people entered.

Daniel watched.

Then Jonathan walked in.

Older.

Gray-haired.

Calm.

Claire looked at him.

She didn’t recognize him.

But Susan did.

“Jonathan.”

He stopped.

Richard stepped forward.

“You should have run.”

Jonathan smiled.

“I’ve been waiting.”

The room froze.

Daniel looked at him.

“You’re alive.”

Jonathan laughed.

“Disappointing, isn’t it?”

Claire stared.

“You destroyed our family.”

Jonathan shook his head.

“No.”

“I built it.”

“You stole it.”

“From whom?”

“You took everything.”

“I took what your family was too weak to control.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“You killed my father.”

Jonathan looked at him.

“Thomas was stubborn.”

“And my mother?”

“She knew too much.”

Claire shook.

“My father?”

Jonathan smiled.

“Richard was always loyal.”

Richard said nothing.

Jonathan turned toward him.

“But loyalty made him weak.”

Daniel noticed federal agents outside.

Jonathan saw them too.

“You think this ends with me.”

“No,” Daniel said.

“It ends with the system.”

Jonathan’s smile disappeared.

Evelyn placed the evidence on the table.

The Harrison Trust.

The Brooks estate.

The ledger.

The recordings.

Susan’s testimony.

Everything.

Jonathan finally looked afraid.

The arrests began.

Victor.

Jonathan.

Several executives.

Dozens of shell companies were frozen.

Millions recovered.

Hale Industries survived.

But Daniel wasn’t thinking about the company.

He was thinking about his father.

About what he had lost.

And what he had finally learned.

After the arrests, Richard came to Daniel.

“I owe you an apology.”

Daniel looked at him.

“You do.”

“I lied.”

“Yes.”

“I put you in danger.”

“Yes.”

“But I wanted you alive.”

Daniel stared.

“Why didn’t you trust me?”

Richard sighed.

“Because the last people I trusted died.”

Daniel understood.

“You’re afraid.”

“I was.”

“And now?”

Richard looked at Claire.

“Now I have a reason to stop.”

Daniel nodded.

Then Richard handed him the original forty-page file.

Daniel opened it.

This time, every page made sense.

The fake letterhead.

The impossible dates.

The dead names.

The printer code.

The hidden clues.

It had all been designed to guide him to the truth.

At the bottom of the final page was one handwritten sentence.

Three days was never a deadline. It was a head start.

Daniel looked at Richard.

“You planned all of it.”

Richard smiled sadly.

“I hoped you’d be smart enough to notice.”
