In College Her Friends Mocked His Torn Clothes… 5 Years Later He Became a Millionaire—and Their Boss
Chapter 8
The conference room was filled with executives.
Sophia sat near the end of the table.
Her colleagues discussed the acquisition.
Then the door opened.
Daniel walked in.
No torn jacket.
No worn backpack.
No nervous expression.
He wore a dark suit that fit perfectly.
But Sophia recognized his eyes immediately.
Daniel looked around the room.
Then he saw her.
For one second, neither spoke.
“Good morning,” Daniel said.
Sophia stood.
“Daniel.”
He nodded.
“Sophia.”
The room went silent.
Her boss looked between them.
“You two know each other?”
Daniel smiled politely.
“We attended the same university.”
Sophia felt her face warm.
Daniel took his seat.
He began the meeting.
He was calm.
Precise.
Prepared.
He knew every number.
Every contract.
Every risk.
He answered questions before people finished asking them.
Sophia realized something.
The quiet student she had once dismissed hadn’t simply become wealthy.
He had become very good at what he did.
After the meeting, Sophia waited outside.
“Daniel.”
He turned.
“Can we talk?”
“Sure.”
“I didn’t know.”
“Know what?”
“That this was your company.”
He smiled.
“You never asked.”
The sentence hit her.
It was the same sentence he had said years earlier.
Sophia looked down.
“I owe you an apology.”
Daniel said nothing.
“I was cruel.”
“You weren’t the only one.”
“But I laughed.”
“Yes.”
“I shouldn’t have.”
“No.”
She looked up.
“Are you angry with me?”
Daniel thought.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because being angry wouldn’t change what happened.”
She nodded.
“Then what do you think?”
Daniel looked at her.
“I think people grow.”
“Have you?”
“Yes.”
“Have I?”
He smiled slightly.
“That’s for you to decide.”
