In College Her Friends Mocked His Torn Clothes… 5 Years Later He Became a Millionaire—and Their Boss
Chapter 12
One year later, Sophia visited Daniel’s mother.
She brought flowers.
His mother opened the door and smiled.
“You’re Sophia.”
Sophia froze.
“You remember me?”
“I remember everyone who made my son sad.”
Sophia laughed nervously.
“Fair.”
His mother waved her inside.
Daniel was in the kitchen.
“Mom.”
“What?”
“You’re frightening her.”
“She needs to be frightened.”
Sophia laughed.
Dinner was simple.
No business.
No boardroom.
No money.
Just three people talking.
Afterward, Daniel walked Sophia home.
She stopped outside her building.
“Your mother hates me.”
“She doesn’t.”
“She threatened me with her eyes.”
“That means she likes you.”
Sophia laughed.
Then became serious.
“Daniel.”
“Yes?”
“I’ve been wanting to tell you something.”
He waited.
“I don’t think I ever disliked you.”
He looked surprised.
“I think I disliked what being around you made me feel.”
“What?”
“Guilty.”
Daniel nodded.
“That’s understandable.”
“I was shallow.”
“You were young.”
“So were you.”
“I was broke.”
She laughed.
“Fair.”
He smiled.
She looked at him.
“I wish I had known you then.”
Daniel thought about it.
“Maybe we weren’t ready.”
“For what?”
He didn’t answer.
Sophia did.
“For each other.”
Neither moved.
Then Daniel reached for her hand.
She didn’t pull away.
