I Hated My Cold Boss — Until a Storm Trapped Us in the Cabin
Chapter 14
One spring, the cabin nearly suffered serious damage from flooding.
A river rose behind the property.
The family had to evacuate temporarily.
Adrian coordinated the repairs.
Claire managed logistics.
Their children helped.
Everyone worked together.
The cabin survived.
Claire stood outside afterward.
She looked at the old building.
“It’s still here.”
Adrian joined her.
“So are we.”
She smiled.
“You always have a line.”
“I’m older.”
“Not wiser.”
He laughed.
The experience reminded them that homes aren’t the walls.
The cabin mattered because of what happened there.
It was the beginning of their family.
Their marriage.
Their memories.
They renovated carefully.
Kept the original fireplace.
Kept the old table.
Kept the photographs.
Added a small reading room.
A place for grandchildren.
The cabin became more beautiful.
But still felt like the same place.
That winter, they returned.
The first snow began.
Claire stood by the window.
Adrian came up behind her.
“You know what’s funny?”
“What?”
“I used to hate storms.”
“Now?”
“I still hate them.”
She laughed.
“Good.”
He wrapped his arms around her.
“But I don’t mind being trapped with you.”
She leaned against him.
“You better not.”
They stood quietly.
The cabin was warm.
The snow was beautiful.
The years had passed.
Yet the emotional distance that once separated them was gone.
No boss.
No employee.
No titles.
Just husband and wife.
That was the real miracle.
Not that a storm trapped them.
That they allowed the storm to change them.
