He Signed The Divorce Mocking Her, Unaware She’s A Secret Trillionaire Heiress

Chapter 8

Richard looked nothing like the villain Evelyn had imagined.

He was calm.

Well dressed.

Almost gentle.

He stood slowly.

“I’ve waited years for this.”

Evelyn kept her distance.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Richard smiled.

“This was my office before it was your father’s.”

“This building belongs to me.”

“Not forever.”

Daniel stepped beside her.

Richard looked at him.

“You.”

Daniel said nothing.

Richard smiled.

“You’ve caused us such trouble.”

“Us?”

“Family.”

Daniel frowned.

“You’re the one attacking her.”

Richard shook his head.

“No.”

“I am reclaiming what was taken.”

Evelyn stared.

“You walked away.”

“I was forced.”

“By whom?”

“Your grandfather.”

“You chose to leave.”

“I chose survival.”

Richard approached the desk.

“Do you know what your father did?”

“He chose me.”

Richard laughed.

“He chose you because he thought you were easier to control.”

Evelyn’s expression hardened.

“He loved me.”

“So did he.”

Richard shook his head.

“Love and control are often the same thing in powerful families.”

Daniel spoke.

“Then why come back now?”

Richard looked at him.

“Because Evelyn is vulnerable.”

She stared.

“I’m not.”

Richard smiled.

“You divorced your husband.”

“You lost your mother’s protection.”

“Your trust is under attack.”

“Your board is divided.”

“You are exactly where I need you.”

Evelyn stepped forward.

“You want me afraid.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because frightened people make mistakes.”

He leaned closer.

“Give me the family trust.”

“No.”

“Then I’ll take it.”

“You can’t.”

Richard smiled.

“Maybe.”

He placed a file on the desk.

Inside were documents showing a secret shareholder agreement.

Evelyn’s father had created a contingency plan.

If Evelyn ever lost control of the trust, Richard could challenge the succession.

But there was a second clause.

The trust could be transferred only if Evelyn voluntarily surrendered it.

Richard wanted her to give up.

To become afraid.

To believe she couldn’t win.

Evelyn looked at him.

“You have one problem.”

“What?”

“I don’t want the trust.”

Richard blinked.

“You what?”

“I never wanted the money.”

“That’s impossible.”

“No.”

She looked directly at him.

“I wanted a family.”

Richard’s expression changed.

For the first time, he looked uncertain.

Evelyn continued:

“You’ve spent your whole life fighting for something you don’t actually want.”

Richard’s voice sharpened.

“You know nothing about me.”

“Then tell me.”

Silence.

He looked away.

Then he said:

“Your grandfather promised me the company.”

Evelyn frowned.

“When?”

“Before your father was born.”

“But he didn’t keep it.”

“No.”

“And that’s why you left.”

“Yes.”

“Then why not come home?”

Richard laughed.

“Because by the time I wanted to, your family had already decided I was dead.”

Evelyn stared.

“Grandmother?”

“She knew.”

Evelyn turned toward the door.

Margaret entered.

Richard looked at her.

“You.”

Margaret’s expression was calm.

“You were always dramatic.”

Richard laughed bitterly.

“You knew where I was.”

“Yes.”

“And you let Evelyn believe I was dead.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Margaret answered:

“Because you were dangerous.”

Richard nodded.

“Fair.”

Evelyn stared at them.

“Everyone knew.”

Margaret looked at her.

“You were never supposed to carry this burden.”

“But I do.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because the family never trusted you.”

Evelyn froze.

“What?”

Margaret continued:

“Your father trusted you.”

“Your mother protected you.”

“But the board wanted you to prove yourself.”

Evelyn looked at the trust documents.

“And Daniel?”

Richard smiled.

“He was the final test.”

Daniel looked at Evelyn.

“What?”

Richard continued:

“Your father knew you needed someone who could love you without knowing what you were worth.”

Evelyn stared.

“So the marriage…”

“Was never planned.”

“But the inheritance?”

“Yes.”

Daniel looked at her.

“I was part of a test.”

Evelyn shook her head.

“You were my life.”

Richard smiled sadly.

“That is why this is so dangerous.”

Then the building’s alarm sounded.

Security rushed in.

Richard disappeared through a hidden door.

Evelyn stared.

“Where did he go?”

Margaret answered:

“Somewhere inside the company.”

Then a security officer approached.

“Miss Carter.”

“Yes?”

“We found evidence Richard accessed your family’s private server.”

“What did he take?”

The officer looked nervous.

“Everything.”
