Everyone Tried to Help the Troubled Pianist—Until a Waitress Played One Familiar Song

Chapter 8

The investigation exposed Victor’s entire network.

The hidden accounts.

The forged insurance policy.

The academy fraud.

The threats.

The attempted murder.

The evidence was overwhelming.

But the biggest revelation came from Eleanor’s trust.

Claire inherited the controlling shares.

The company.

The academy.

The investment portfolio.

Almost $200 million.

She could have walked away.

Instead, she did something nobody expected.

She gave control of the academy to an independent foundation.

She established scholarships.

She funded music education.

She created a legal fund for whistleblowers.

And she gave the profits to children’s hospitals.

Adrian watched from the sidelines.

“You don’t have to do all this.”

Claire smiled.

“My mother would.”

He nodded.

One evening, Claire returned to the empty concert hall.

Adrian was at the piano.

He hadn’t played in weeks.

He stared at the keys.

“Play.”

He looked at her.

“I can’t.”

“You can.”

“No.”

She sat beside him.

“What are you afraid of?”

He didn’t answer.

She understood.

“Music reminds you of my mother.”

He nodded.

“Every note.”

“Then maybe that’s why you stopped.”

“What do you mean?”

“Because you were afraid of losing her again.”

Adrian looked at her.

She placed her fingers on the keys.

“Play the four notes.”

He did.

Then the melody.

For the first time in three weeks, something came.

Not perfection.

Not brilliance.

Emotion.

Adrian’s hands moved.

Claire listened.

Tears formed in her eyes.

When he finished, silence remained.

Then she whispered,

“That was beautiful.”

Adrian looked at the piano.

“I felt it.”

She smiled.

“What?”

“The music.”

He looked at her.

“I think your mother was right.”

“About what?”

“Playing for people isn’t enough.”

He touched the keys.

“You have to play for someone.”

Claire smiled.

“And who were you playing for?”

Adrian looked at her.

“You.”

She stopped breathing.

Neither moved.

Then Claire whispered,

“That’s dangerous.”

“Why?”

“Because I might start hoping.”

He smiled.

“For what?”

She looked into his eyes.

“For more.”
