Everyone Tried to Help the Troubled Pianist—Until a Waitress Played One Familiar Song

Chapter 7

Adrian wanted Claire nowhere near the concert hall.

She refused.

“I’m coming.”

“No.”

“He threatened me.”

“Exactly.”

“I’m not hiding.”

Adrian looked at her.

“You don’t have to prove anything.”

“I know.”

She stepped closer.

“I just don’t want to lose another person because someone decided what was best for me.”

That hit him.

Because it sounded like his own story.

They went together.

The concert hall was empty.

No staff.

No security.

No audience.

The grand piano waited under the stage lights.

Adrian walked to the center.

“Victor?”

No answer.

Then the screen behind the piano turned on.

Victor appeared.

“Adrian.”

“You wanted me.”

“Yes.”

Claire stepped forward.

“And me.”

Victor smiled.

“Especially you.”

He explained the trust.

Eleanor had created it.

She knew Victor was stealing money.

She knew he would come after her.

So she hid the controlling shares.

But she needed someone she trusted to protect Claire.

Adrian was chosen.

“Why him?” Claire asked.

Victor laughed.

“Because Eleanor knew he’d die before he’d betray you.”

Adrian’s expression hardened.

Victor continued.

“She was right.”

Then another video appeared.

Eleanor.

Older.

Tired.

Speaking directly to Claire.

“My darling.”

Claire began crying.

“I wish I could have told you everything.”

Eleanor explained the trust.

The company.

The fraud.

Victor.

Then something unexpected.

“Adrian was never just a pianist.”

Claire looked at him.

Victor smiled.

“He was your mother’s secret witness.”

Adrian lowered his head.

Eleanor continued:

“He saw what Victor did.”

“He was there the night I was threatened.”

“He helped me escape.”

Claire looked at Adrian.

“You never told me.”

“I promised.”

The video ended.

Victor spoke again.

“You have the shares.”

“You have the evidence.”

“You could destroy me.”

“Or we can make a deal.”

Claire stared.

“What?”

“Give me the trust.”

“No.”

“Then Adrian dies.”

Silence.

Victor’s men appeared behind the stage.

Claire looked at Adrian.

He shook his head.

“No.”

Victor smiled.

“Choose.”

Claire stepped forward.

“Fine.”

“I’ll sign.”

Adrian’s eyes widened.

“Claire.”

“Trust me.”

She signed the papers.

Victor smiled.

Then Claire pressed a button.

The screen changed.

The entire conversation had been livestreamed.

Police.

Investigators.

News networks.

Everyone had heard Victor’s confession.

Victor froze.

“You—”

Claire smiled.

“My mother taught me numbers.”

She looked at the screen.

“She also taught me to count twice.”

Police stormed the theater.

Victor tried to escape.

Adrian grabbed him.

A struggle followed.

Victor was arrested.

Claire stood frozen.

For a moment, the room became quiet.

Then Adrian walked toward her.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded.

“No.”

He pulled her into a hug.

She cried.

Not from fear.

From relief.

Then she whispered:

“I finally found the truth.”

Adrian held her tighter.

“So did I.”
