Disguised Boss Ordered Coffee in His Own Bar — Then Froze at the Waitress’s 3 Words!

Chapter 4

That evening, Adrian followed Mia after work.

He didn’t want to.

But the photograph had forced his hand.

She left the bar at 2:00 a.m., walking alone for six blocks before entering a small apartment building.

Adrian stayed across the street.

He expected something suspicious.

Instead, a young woman opened the door.

Mia hugged her.

The woman was crying.

Adrian later learned she was Mia’s younger sister, Sophie.

Their mother had died five years earlier.

No secret.

No conspiracy.

But Adrian couldn’t stop thinking about Lucas.

The next morning, Mia confronted him.

“You followed me.”

Adrian didn’t deny it.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“I was worried.”

She laughed without humor.

“You don’t know me.”

“I know enough.”

“No, you don’t.”

He stepped closer.

“I know your brother disappeared.”

She froze.

“I know you’re trying to find him.”

“Yes.”

“And I know someone is using your family to scare you.”

Her face changed.

“You’ve been investigating me.”

“I have.”

“Why?”

Adrian struggled.

Because he trusted her.

Because he had started caring what happened to her.

Because she had looked at him like he was just a man.

But he couldn’t say any of that.

So he said the truth he could manage.

“Because I think we’re looking for the same people.”

She stared.

“Who are you?”

Adrian finally decided.

He took off his cap.

“My name is Adrian.”

“I know.”

“No.”

He looked directly into her eyes.

“Adrian Cole.”

Mia went completely still.

She stared at him.

Then laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because she couldn’t believe it.

“You’re him?”

“Yes.”

“The owner?”

“Yes.”

“The billionaire?”

Adrian winced.

“Yes.”

She took one step backward.

“You’ve been sitting at my bar pretending to be broke?”

“I wasn’t pretending to be broke.”

“You ordered free staff coffee!”

“That was your rule.”

She stared at him.

Then shook her head.

“You lied to me.”

“I didn’t tell you everything.”

“That is the same thing.”

Adrian accepted it.

“You’re right.”

She turned away.

He expected her to leave.

Instead, she asked:

“Why?”

He explained.

The complaints.

The missing money.

The fear inside the bar.

His suspicion of management.

Mia listened.

Then she said:

“I believe you.”

He blinked.

“Why?”

“Because you came back.”

“What?”

“You could have fired everyone.”

She looked at him.

“Instead you came back as yourself.”

Adrian exhaled.

“Help me.”

Mia considered it.

Then nodded.

“I will.”

That afternoon, they met in a private conference room.

Mia handed Adrian copies of every record Lucas had left behind.

Adrian brought corporate transaction histories.

Together they found a pattern.

The fake vendors were all connected to Northstar Capital.

Northstar was controlled through three shell companies.

Two belonged to investors Adrian knew.

The third belonged to a trust.

The beneficiary name was hidden.

Adrian called his legal team.

“Find out who controls the trust.”

The lawyer called back two hours later.

Adrian listened.

Then went silent.

Mia watched him.

“What?”

He ended the call.

“The trust belongs to my uncle.”

“Who?”

“Richard Cole.”

Mia’s eyes widened.

“Your family?”

“Yes.”

Adrian sat down.

Richard had helped Adrian build the first Blue Lantern location.

He had been there after Adrian’s father died.

He was the man Adrian trusted most outside his own mother.

Mia looked at him.

“Maybe he isn’t the one.”

“I hope not.”

His phone rang.

Richard.

Adrian answered.

“Uncle.”

A pause.

Then Richard’s warm voice.

“Adrian, I heard you’re asking strange questions about the company.”

Adrian glanced at Mia.

“What questions?”

Richard laughed softly.

“About money.”

Adrian’s blood ran cold.

Richard continued:

“Some doors are dangerous to open.”

The line went dead.

Mia whispered:

“He knows.”

Adrian nodded.

And for the first time, he realized the person he had been hunting might already know exactly where he was.
