Disguised Boss Ordered Coffee in His Own Bar — Then Froze at the Waitress’s 3 Words!
Chapter 10
The truth became more complicated with every minute.
Nathan finally explained.
He had been cooperating with federal investigators for over a year.
The company was being used to move money through international shell networks.
Joseph was not merely stealing from Cole Hospitality.
He was laundering money for a larger criminal organization.
That organization wanted to acquire legitimate companies and use them to move illegal funds.
Nathan had gone undercover to gather evidence.
Lucas had discovered part of the network.
Eleanor had been hidden because she held documents that could connect the operation to its oldest members.
Adrian looked at Nathan.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because we didn’t know who we could trust.”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“You should’ve asked.”
“We didn’t know your father trusted you.”
Adrian went silent.
“My father?”
Nathan nodded.
“Before he died, he left instructions.”
He handed Adrian a letter.
Adrian recognized the handwriting instantly.
His hands shook.
He opened it.
Adrian,
If you are reading this, I failed to give you the life I wanted.
Adrian stopped.
His eyes filled with tears.
I need you to understand something. I left not because I didn’t love you. I left because I did.
He continued.
The person who appears to control the company isn’t the person you should fear most.
Adrian’s eyes moved to the final paragraph.
The real danger is the person everyone trusts because he never asks for anything.
Adrian looked up.
Everyone in the room went silent.
Mia slowly said:
“Who?”
Adrian thought.
Someone trusted.
Someone quiet.
Someone who had been present for years.
Then he remembered.
His father’s lawyer.
Samuel Pierce.
Samuel had managed the family trust.
He had arranged Michael’s disappearance.
He had handled the legal structures.
And, most importantly, he had never asked for money.
He had always said he was protecting the Cole family.
Adrian called him.
Samuel answered immediately.
“Adrian.”
“Where are you?”
“At home.”
“No, you’re not.”
Silence.
Adrian felt his blood run cold.
Samuel finally said:
“You’re very close.”
“To what?”
“The truth.”
The call ended.
Adrian looked at Nathan.
“Find him.”
They traced Samuel’s phone to the airport.
They arrived twenty minutes later.
Samuel was walking toward a private terminal.
Adrian shouted:
“Samuel!”
He stopped.
Then turned.
“You were always smarter than your father.”
Adrian walked toward him.
“You killed him?”
Samuel shook his head.
“No.”
“You helped Joseph.”
“I did.”
“Why?”
Samuel’s face was calm.
“Because I believed I could control him.”
“And?”
“I couldn’t.”
“So you kept the secret.”
“Yes.”
“You kidnapped Eleanor?”
“No.”
“Where is my mother?”
Samuel looked at Adrian.
“Safe.”
“Where?”
“Not for much longer.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“What does that mean?”
Samuel smiled faintly.
“Joseph knows you’ve found the truth.”
He turned.
“They’re coming for the shares tonight.”
Adrian grabbed his arm.
“What shares?”
Samuel looked at him.
“Yours.”
A loud gunshot echoed through the terminal.
Samuel collapsed.
Everyone screamed.
Adrian dropped to his knees.
Samuel was bleeding.
He whispered:
“Don’t let him take the bar.”
Adrian stared.
“The bar?”
Samuel forced himself to speak.
“Your father hid the final proof there.”
Then he lost consciousness.
Adrian looked toward the private terminal.
A black SUV was speeding away.
Inside sat Joseph Cole.
And beside him was a terrified woman.
Adrian’s mother.
