CEO THOUGHT SHE WAS JUST A CLEANER—UNTIL SHE FIXED HIS $450 MILLION BLUEPRINT IN SECONDS!

Chapter 4

The next morning, Lena discovered that someone had accessed her computer.

Her project files were open.

Several calculations had been changed.

She immediately shut the system down.

When Adrian arrived, she showed him.

“Someone altered the model.”

He stared at the screen.

“Can you prove who?”

“Not yet.”

He called the company’s cybersecurity team.

They traced the login.

The access had come from an executive terminal.

Victor Hale’s.

Adrian confronted him.

Victor denied everything.

“My credentials were stolen.”

Lena wasn’t convinced.

Neither was Adrian.

But there was no proof.

The board meeting that afternoon was worse.

The directors demanded that Adrian proceed with the groundbreaking.

“We’ve already announced the project.”

“We can’t delay.”

“The investors are watching.”

Adrian listened.

Then Lena entered.

She placed a folder on the table.

“I found something.”

One director frowned.

“Who is she?”

Adrian answered.

“Our structural consultant.”

The director looked at her uniform.

“She was a cleaner yesterday.”

“She was an engineer before that.”

Lena opened the folder.

“These are the original flood simulations.”

She displayed them.

The room became silent.

“This project is unsafe unless the eastern foundation is redesigned.”

One board member shook his head.

“Impossible.”

Lena looked at him.

“Would you park your car underground during a major storm?”

He didn’t answer.

Adrian supported her.

“We delay construction.”

The board erupted.

“No.”

“You’ll destroy investor confidence.”

“This is a $450 million project.”

Adrian stood.

“Exactly.”

He looked around the room.

“I’d rather lose money than lose lives.”

The vote was postponed.

Afterward, Lena and Adrian walked through the empty conference room.

“You didn’t have to defend me.”

“I did.”

“Why?”

“Because you were right.”

Lena looked at him.

“You know that’s not what I meant.”

Adrian stopped.

“I’ve spent fifteen years building this company.”

“I know.”

“I thought success meant making decisions faster than everyone else.”

“And now?”

“Now I’m realizing sometimes the smartest person in the room is the one nobody bothered to listen to.”

Lena smiled.

“That sounds expensive.”

Adrian laughed.

It was the first time she had heard him laugh.

For a moment, the tension disappeared.

Then Lena noticed a photograph on the wall.

It showed Adrian’s father.

He had founded Westbridge Development.

Lena stared at the photograph.

“That’s your father?”

“Yes.”

“He looks familiar.”

Adrian frowned.

“Why?”

“I don’t know.”

She walked closer.

There was another person in the photograph.

A young engineer standing behind Adrian’s father.

Lena’s expression changed.

She knew that man.

Her father had once shown her the same photograph.

She had never understood why.

Adrian noticed.

“What?”

Lena pointed.

“My father worked for him.”

Adrian stared.

“Your father?”

“Yes.”

He looked at the photograph again.

Then at Lena.

“That’s impossible.”

“Why?”

“My father said that engineer disappeared.”

Lena’s heart sank.

Her father had never disappeared.

He had died twelve years earlier.

But now she wondered why Adrian’s father had believed he was gone.

And why her own father had never told her about Westbridge.
