Billionaire Pretends to Be Homeless, But the Poor Girl Knows His Biggest Secret
Chapter 7
Lily didn’t believe him.
Not completely.
But she wanted to.
That was the dangerous part.
“What memory?”
Alexander explained the stories.
The numbers.
The symbols.
The house.
Lily sat on the station bench.
She closed her eyes.
For several minutes, she said nothing.
Then she whispered,
“The red door.”
Alexander sat beside her.
“What?”
“There was always a red door.”
“Where?”
“I don’t know.”
“Try to remember.”
She frowned.
“My mother used to tell me a story about a little girl who lived in a house with seven windows.”
Alexander opened his phone.
“How many windows?”
“Seven.”
“What else?”
“A tree.”
“How many branches?”
“Three.”
“Anything else?”
She closed her eyes.
“A clock.”
“What time?”
“Eight seventeen.”
Alexander typed.
8-1-7.
Then Lily whispered,
“And a song.”
“What song?”
“I don’t know.”
She began humming.
Alexander recognized it immediately.
His mother used to play it on the piano.
“What is it?”
“My father’s favorite song.”
“Daniel’s?”
She nodded.
Alexander’s pulse increased.
The melody contained the final sequence.
He called Evelyn.
They matched the notes.
A location appeared.
An abandoned foundation building.
Beneath it was a vault.
Lily stared at the screen.
“This is real.”
“Yes.”
“And my father knows?”
“He created the code.”
“Then why didn’t he come for me?”
“Because he thought you’d be safer if you believed he was dead.”
She looked at Alexander.
“Did you know about me before we met?”
“Yes.”
“How long?”
“Since I was eight.”
Her expression hardened.
“You knew.”
“I remembered you.”
“And you still became close to me.”
“I didn’t know who you were at first.”
“But you found out.”
“Yes.”
“Did you ever plan to tell me?”
“I should have.”
She looked away.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then Alexander reached for her hand.
She didn’t pull away.
“We’re going to the vault,” he said.
“Together?”
“Together.”
The abandoned building stood near the river.
They entered through a broken basement door.
The symbols from Lily’s memory appeared on the walls.
Seven windows.
Three branches.
Clock.
Red door.
She touched one.
A hidden panel opened.
Inside was a keypad.
Alexander looked at Lily.
“You’re the only person who can open it.”
She entered the numbers.
8-1-7.
Nothing happened.
Then she hummed the melody.
The keypad changed.
A fingerprint scanner appeared.
She placed her hand on it.
The door opened.
Inside were hundreds of files.
Bank accounts.
Photographs.
Contracts.
Video recordings.
And one video labeled:
FOR LILY — WHEN SHE IS READY.
She pressed play.
Daniel Carter appeared.
Older.
Tired.
Alive.
“Lily.”
She began crying.
“I wish I could have been there.”
He explained the truth.
Thomas had created the hidden network.
Victor had helped him.
Richard had discovered it.
Daniel and Margaret had worked with him.
Evelyn had tried to protect them.
When Thomas discovered the plan, he ordered Richard’s death and forced Daniel into hiding.
Margaret tried to expose him.
She died before she could.
Daniel had hidden the evidence and encoded access into Lily’s childhood memories.
Then he said something that shocked her.
“I never wanted you to inherit money.”
“I wanted you to inherit the truth.”
The video ended.
Lily covered her face.
Alexander sat beside her.
“You were never alone,” he said.
She looked at him.
“I was.”
He shook his head.
“Not anymore.”
Then the vault lights went out.
A voice echoed through the darkness.
“You should have left the door closed.”
Thomas.
