Billionaire Pretends to Be Homeless, But the Poor Girl Knows His Biggest Secret

Chapter 12

Six months later, Lily was sitting in a courtroom.

The Reed investigation had ended.

Samuel was sentenced.

Thomas accepted a deal.

Victor testified.

The hidden network collapsed.

The newspapers called Alexander a billionaire who had sacrificed billions.

Lily hated that headline.

“He didn’t sacrifice billions,” she told a reporter.

“He sacrificed power.”

That sentence spread everywhere.

Alexander didn’t care.

He had sold the penthouse.

He moved into a smaller home.

He walked to work.

He stopped using private cars.

People who had known him before didn’t recognize him.

One afternoon, Lily found him sitting outside the coffee shop.

He was wearing jeans and a plain shirt.

“You look homeless again.”

He smiled.

“Bad memories.”

She sat beside him.

“You don’t have to pretend anymore.”

“I know.”

“You know what I still don’t understand?”

“What?”

“Why me?”

He looked at her.

“You were the only person who helped me before you knew my name.”

She smiled.

“That still wasn’t enough.”

He shook his head.

“It was.”

She became quiet.

“You know what my mother said?”

“No.”

“She said wealth without truth is another kind of prison.”

“That sounds like my father.”

“They probably would have liked each other.”

“I think they did.”

Lily leaned against him.

“What are you going to do now?”

“Build something.”

“What?”

“A company.”

“Another one?”

“A smaller one.”

“Doing what?”

“Investing in businesses that actually help people.”

She smiled.

“And the foundation?”

“You’re running it.”

Her eyes widened.

“Me?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because you know what people actually need.”

She laughed.

“You trust me with millions?”

“I trust you with everything.”

Then he pulled something from his pocket.

A small ring.

Lily stared.

“Alexander.”

“I know.”

“We’re not ready.”

“I know.”

“Then why?”

“Because I wanted you to have it before I asked.”

She laughed through tears.

“That’s the first sensible romantic thing you’ve ever done.”

He smiled.

“I can improve.”

She took the ring.

“Not yet.”

“Not yet?”

“Ask me later.”

He nodded.

“I will.”

That night, Lily returned home and opened her mother’s old wooden box.

Inside was the photograph that had been stolen months earlier.

Someone had returned it.

She studied it.

Her mother.

Daniel.

Richard.

Evelyn.

And a little girl.

Lily.

But there was another child standing beside Alexander.

She looked closely.

She didn’t recognize him.

On the back was a message.

There was another secret Richard never told Alexander.

Lily’s heart pounded.

She called him immediately.

“You need to come over.”

He arrived in twenty minutes.

She showed him the photograph.

He stared.

“I’ve never seen this.”

“Who is that?”

“I don’t know.”

Then he noticed something.

The boy wore the same black symbol Alexander had drawn as a child.

The hidden network symbol.

Alexander looked at Lily.

“Someone survived.”

“What do you mean?”

“My father’s second child.”

She stared.

“You mean…”

“It’s possible.”

A new mystery had begun.

But this time, neither of them was afraid.

They had learned something more powerful than money.

Truth could survive.

Even when everyone who knew it disappeared.
