“Back Off, She’s With Me!”—Single Dad Ex-SEAL Protected a Stranger Who Was Actually a CEO

Chapter 11

The estate became chaos.

Security personnel ran through the halls.

Gunfire echoed outside.

Mason carried Emma while Claire followed.

They reached a hidden office.

Mason locked the door.

“Stay here.”

Claire shook her head.

“No.”

He looked at her.

“You stay with Emma.”

“I’m not leaving you.”

“Claire.”

She stepped closer.

“You don’t get to decide that alone anymore.”

Mason stared at her.

Then nodded.

“Fine.”

They worked together.

Claire found the main server.

Mason guarded the entrance.

Emma sat beneath the desk with headphones over her ears.

“Daddy?”

“What?”

“I’m okay.”

“I know.”

A gunshot hit the door.

Mason returned fire.

Claire looked at him.

“You can’t keep doing that forever.”

“I don’t need forever.”

“Just long enough.”

She smiled.

“Exactly.”

She inserted Emma’s necklace into the hidden reader.

The system activated.

A screen appeared.

AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED.

Claire placed her hand on the scanner.

Then Mason.

The screen changed.

PRIMARY: CLAIRE BENNETT.

SECONDARY: EMMA COLE.

Mason froze.

“I’m not listed.”

Claire looked at him.

“Why?”

The system displayed another message.

WITNESS: MASON COLE.

“Witness?”

Then a video began.

Emily.

Alive again.

Mason stared.

She looked directly at him.

“If you’re watching this, Mason, then Emma is old enough to know the truth.”

His heart broke.

Emily explained that she had discovered Atlantic.

She knew Richard had built it.

She knew Evelyn had taken control.

She also knew Victor wanted it.

But she had hidden one final safeguard.

Mason.

Not as an administrator.

As a witness.

Because he was the only person she trusted to choose Emma’s future over money or power.

“If anyone tries to use her,” Emily said, “destroy the system.”

The video ended.

Mason wiped his eyes.

Claire touched his arm.

“She knew you would choose her.”

He nodded.

“Always.”

The server began counting down.

SYSTEM DESTRUCTION: 05:00

Claire looked at him.

“We have five minutes.”

“Do it.”

“We’ll lose the company.”

“I don’t care.”

“Billions.”

“Don’t care.”

“Your daughter’s trust.”

“Don’t care.”

She stared.

“What do you care about?”

He looked at her.

“Her.”

Claire smiled.

“Good answer.”

Footsteps approached.

Marcus.

The door slammed open.

Mason moved.

Marcus blocked him.

They fought hand to hand.

Mason was faster.

But Marcus was younger.

The fight crashed through the office.

Claire kept working.

Emma watched through the glass.

Marcus grabbed Mason’s throat.

“You should have stayed out of this.”

Mason forced him backward.

“You should never have touched my daughter.”

Marcus reached for a weapon.

Mason knocked it away.

Claire pressed the final command.

DELETE.

The system began erasing.

Marcus looked at the screen.

“No!”

He lunged toward Claire.

Mason intercepted him.

They crashed into the wall.

Marcus stumbled.

Mason stood over him.

“You lose.”

Marcus laughed.

“Not yet.”

He pulled a knife.

Before Mason could react, Evelyn stepped between them.

The knife cut her arm.

She fell.

Marcus froze.

Claire screamed.

Mason tackled him.

Security rushed in.

Marcus was finally restrained.

Evelyn lay bleeding.

Claire dropped beside her.

“Mom.”

Evelyn looked at her.

“I’m sorry.”

Claire cried.

“You should be.”

Evelyn smiled weakly.

“I know.”

The server went dark.

Atlantic was gone.

The network had been destroyed.

The money was frozen.

The secrets were no longer accessible.

For the first time in twenty years, nobody controlled the system.

Mason sat beside Emma.

She leaned against him.

“Did we win?”

He looked at Claire.

Then smiled.

“Yes.”

Not because they saved a company.

Because they saved their lives from becoming another version of the past.
