Abandoned at 19, She Met the West’s Richest Cowboy—And He Refused to Let Her Go
Chapter 12
Ten years after the night on the highway, Clara’s story was known across the state.
Not because she had married the richest cowboy in the West.
Because she had built one of the strongest ranch businesses in the region.
The ranch had expanded.
The foundation had grown.
Grace was now eighteen and preparing for college.
One evening, she sat beside her mother.
“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“Are you happy?”
Clara smiled.
“Yes.”
“Because of Dad?”
She thought.
“Because I found myself.”
Grace looked confused.
“What does that mean?”
Clara explained.
“I thought your father saved me.”
She smiled.
“He didn’t.”
“He gave me a place to stand.”
Grace nodded.
“And then?”
“I learned to stand on my own.”
Grace smiled.
“I want that.”
“You will.”
That evening, Ethan found Clara in the barn.
He held two coffees.
“Thought you could use one.”
She smiled.
“You always know.”
He sat beside her.
“You changed my life.”
She looked at him.
“How?”
“Before you, I thought I had everything.”
“And?”
“I had money.”
She smiled.
“That’s not everything.”
“No.”
He took her hand.
“You taught me that.”
They sat quietly.
Outside, the sunset covered the mountains.
The ranch looked endless.
