A WAITRESS FED THE SAME HOMELESS MAN EVERY NIGHT—ONE DAY, HE WALKED IN WEARING A SUIT

Chapter 9

The investor dinner was held at the Harrison Grand Hotel.

Hundreds of guests arrived.

Luxury cars filled the entrance.

Cameras flashed.

Richard Harrison stood beneath a massive chandelier, greeting investors.

Everything looked perfect.

Until David walked through the doors.

He wore the black suit.

No beard.

No old coat.

No tired eyes.

For a second, nobody recognized him.

Then Richard did.

His glass stopped halfway to his mouth.

David walked directly toward him.

“Good evening, Richard.”

Richard’s face became white.

“David.”

The room fell silent.

Whispers spread.

“Is that him?”

“Impossible.”

“He’s alive?”

David stopped.

“I believe we have some unfinished business.”

Richard recovered.

“You’re supposed to be dead.”

“So I heard.”

Richard stepped closer.

Security began moving.

David raised his voice.

“Before you remove me, perhaps you should ask why twenty-three former employees are sitting in the private ballroom upstairs.”

Richard froze.

David continued.

“And why six journalists have copies of your company’s financial records.”

Richard looked toward the cameras.

Emma stood near the entrance.

Daniel stood beside her.

Richard saw them.

His expression became furious.

“You.”

Emma didn’t move.

Richard whispered:

“You have no idea what you’ve started.”

Emma answered:

“Neither did you when you decided poor people were easy to steal from.”

The ballroom doors opened.

Witnesses entered.

One after another.

Former accountants.

Employees.

Investors.

People who had lost homes.

People who had lost retirement savings.

People who had been ignored.

Richard’s lawyer rushed forward.

“This is harassment.”

Daniel held up a folder.

“No.”

“This is evidence.”

Richard turned.

“Daniel, think carefully.”

Daniel’s hands shook.

But he remained standing.

“My father lost everything because of you.”

Richard’s face hardened.

“Your father was weak.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“He trusted you.”

“And that was his mistake.”

The words were captured by multiple cameras.

Richard realized too late.

Emma looked at David.

He nodded.

Then the hotel screens suddenly changed.

Financial records appeared.

Transfers.

Shell companies.

Dates.

Names.

The room erupted.

Richard shouted:

“Turn that off!”

Nobody moved.

A journalist raised a microphone.

“Mr. Harrison, did you authorize these transfers?”

Richard turned toward the exit.

Security officers blocked him.

Police entered.

Emma watched as the man who had seemed untouchable suddenly looked very small.

But then Richard smiled.

“You think this proves everything?”

David frowned.

Richard looked directly at Emma.

“No.”

He pointed toward her.

“You still don’t know why I chose you.”
