The Wealthy Moms Humiliated the Broke Single Dad at School — Then the Billionaire Principal Bowed Before Him

Chapter 4

The silence after Alexander bowed was almost louder than the applause.

Marcus hated every second of it.

He looked at Alexander.

“You didn’t have to do that.”

Alexander shook his head.

“I did.”

Amanda stepped forward.

“Mr. Hale…”

Marcus turned toward her.

She looked stunned.

“I didn’t know.”

“I know.”

“I didn’t mean…”

“I know.”

Lauren approached too.

“This is incredible.”

Marcus looked at her.

“It’s not.”

She froze.

“It’s just money.”

Amanda looked uncomfortable.

“But the company…”

“My company.”

“Yes.”

“Still doesn’t change anything.”

He picked up his jacket.

“I don’t want this.”

Alexander followed him.

“Marcus.”

Marcus turned.

“Why?”

“Because you deserve to have people know the truth.”

“No.”

“Why hide?”

“Because I don’t want people respecting my wallet.”

Alexander sighed.

“They already respect it.”

“They’re afraid of it.”

Marcus looked back at the room.

“That’s exactly what I didn’t want.”

He walked out.

Outside, Emma was waiting.

She had seen the crowd.

“Dad?”

“I’m fine.”

“Why were people staring?”

Marcus smiled.

“Because people are curious.”

She looked suspicious.

“Did you win something?”

He laughed.

“No.”

She held his hand.

“Are you coming home?”

“Always.”

At home, Marcus finally told her.

Not everything.

But enough.

He explained that his company had grown.

That he had money.

That the school had benefited from his company.

Emma looked confused.

“Are we rich?”

Marcus smiled.

“We’re comfortable.”

“Are you a billionaire?”

He laughed.

“No.”

She smiled.

“Good.”

“Why good?”

“Because then people might be weird.”

Marcus hugged her.

“Exactly.”

The next day, the story spread through the school.

Parents searched Marcus’s company.

They discovered its value.

They discovered the science building.

The scholarships.

The donations.

The anonymous grants.

The school board records.

Marcus had been responsible for millions in educational funding.

Amanda became the subject of gossip.

Some parents avoided her.

Others apologized.

She didn’t know what to do.

Then she found Marcus alone in the parking lot.

“Can I speak to you?”

He nodded.

“I owe you an apology.”

“Yes.”

She looked embarrassed.

“I judged you.”

“You did.”

“I was wrong.”

“You were.”

She swallowed.

“Can you forgive me?”

Marcus looked at her.

“Yes.”

She seemed surprised.

“That easy?”

“No.”

He smiled slightly.

“But I’m raising a daughter.”

Amanda nodded.

“I want her to learn forgiveness.”

Amanda looked down.

“You really are different.”

Marcus shook his head.

“I’m not.”

He pointed toward the school.

“I’ve just been quiet.”

Then he walked away.

Amanda stood there.

For the first time, she wondered how many people she had judged because she never bothered to ask who they really were.
