The Wealthy Moms Humiliated the Broke Single Dad at School — Then the Billionaire Principal Bowed Before Him

Chapter 3

Three years earlier, Bellmont Academy had been close to shutting down one of its science buildings.

A major donor had withdrawn.

Construction costs had exploded.

The school had been facing a deficit large enough to eliminate several programs.

The board had considered selling part of the property.

Then an anonymous donor stepped in.

A company purchased the building.

The debt was paid.

The science program survived.

The donor requested one condition.

No public recognition.

The board agreed.

The donor was Marcus Hale.

At the time, he had been negotiating a large engineering contract with the company that owned the building.

Rather than let Bellmont lose the facility, he bought the property through his company and leased it back to the school at almost no cost.

He did it because Emma was three years old at the time.

He wanted her to have access to a good education later.

He never expected anyone to know.

Alexander did.

He had been principal for six months when the agreement was finalized.

He had signed the papers.

He knew exactly who Marcus was.

He simply respected his privacy.

Until now.

That afternoon, Alexander asked Marcus to stay after school.

“You should have told them.”

“Why?”

“Because they’re insulting you.”

Marcus shrugged.

“I can handle it.”

“That’s not the point.”

“It is to me.”

Alexander looked at him.

“You gave this school millions.”

“Technically, my company did.”

“Because of your daughter.”

“Yes.”

“You’ve never mentioned it.”

“I didn’t do it for attention.”

“I know.”

Alexander smiled.

“That’s why I respect you.”

Marcus looked uncomfortable.

“Please don’t tell them.”

Alexander frowned.

“Why?”

“Because if they know what I am worth, they’ll treat me differently.”

“You’re worth more than your money.”

Marcus nodded.

“That’s exactly why I don’t want to tell them.”

Alexander understood.

But then came the problem.

Amanda had filed a formal complaint.

She wanted stricter admission standards.

Financial participation.

She claimed scholarship families were changing the school’s culture.

Alexander refused.

The board became divided.

Some trustees supported Amanda because her family donated heavily.

Others supported Alexander.

Marcus wanted no part of the conflict.

He just wanted Emma to go to school.

Then something unexpected happened.

A school fundraiser was scheduled.

Amanda publicly mocked Marcus.

The event was held in the main atrium.

Dozens of parents attended.

Auction items were displayed.

Luxury vacations.

Designer furniture.

Exclusive dining packages.

Marcus stood near the back.

He wore the same dark jacket he used every day.

Amanda approached.

“You’re here.”

“Yes.”

“Did you bring a donation?”

Marcus smiled.

“I donated privately.”

She laughed.

“Of course.”

Her friends gathered around.

One whispered:

“Maybe the scholarship families could contribute handmade crafts.”

Another laughed.

Marcus felt his face warm.

He could have walked away.

Instead, he said:

“You don’t know anything about me.”

Amanda smiled.

“Then tell us.”

Marcus was silent.

He wasn’t going to.

Then Alexander stepped onto the stage.

He held a microphone.

“Before we begin the auction, I’d like to recognize someone.”

Marcus looked up.

Alexander continued:

“Someone who has supported this school quietly for years.”

Amanda smiled.

“Really?”

Alexander looked directly at her.

“Yes.”

He paused.

“Mr. Marcus Hale.”

The room went silent.

Marcus’s face changed.

Alexander continued:

“The founder and majority owner of Hale Meridian Holdings.”

A murmur moved through the room.

Amanda’s smile disappeared.

Alexander looked around.

“The company behind this school’s science campus.”

Marcus closed his eyes.

He had not wanted this.

But Alexander wasn’t finished.

He stepped down from the stage.

Walked directly toward Marcus.

And in front of everyone, the billionaire principal bowed his head in respect.

“Thank you.”

The room erupted into whispers.

Amanda stared.

She had spent months calling Marcus broke.

She had no idea she had been insulting the man who had kept her children’s school alive.
