THE HOUSE ETHAN COLE BUILT FOR TWO
Chapter 6
Lily stood in the doorway of the yellow room.
She didn’t speak.
Ethan stopped behind her.
“Do you like it?”
She nodded.
“You chose yellow.”
“I remember.”
She walked inside.
There was a small bed.
A wooden nightstand.
A lamp.
A bookshelf.
And a stuffed rabbit sitting on the pillow.
Lily picked it up.
“What’s his name?”
Ethan thought for a second.
“You decide.”
She hugged it.
“Charlie.”
“Okay.”
She looked toward the wall.
“Can I put pictures there?”
“Sure.”
“Lots?”
“As many as you want.”
She smiled.
Then looked at him.
“Can I keep my backpack?”
Ethan frowned slightly.
“Of course.”
“Even though I have a room?”
“Yeah.”
She nodded.
Then placed the backpack inside the closet.
Carefully.
As if she was putting away something she might need later.
Ethan noticed.
He didn’t say anything.
Instead, he walked over to the window.
“There’s the harbor.”
Lily climbed onto the small chair.
“I can see it.”
“Yeah.”
“Can we go tomorrow?”
“If it’s not raining.”
“What if it rains?”
Ethan looked at her.
“We’ll go anyway.”
Lily smiled.
