THE DAYS THAT STARTED TO FEEL LIKE HOME
Chapter 15
Weeks passed.
The summer slowly faded.
The evenings became cooler.
The tourist crowds disappeared.
The harbor became quieter.
Greyhaven returned to its winter rhythm.
Ethan bought a heavier jacket.
He learned which café stayed open late.
He began keeping spare tools in his truck.
He even started planting a few things outside his house.
Walter saw him one morning.
“You gardening?”
Ethan looked down at the small plants.
“Trying.”
Walter laughed.
“You really have changed.”
Ethan frowned.
“How?”
“You used to carry one bag.”
Ethan looked at his porch.
Now there were tools.
Shoes.
A jacket.
A fishing net someone had given him.
A small wooden chair.
Several books.
A toolbox.
Plants.
Things.
Normal things.
The kind of things people accumulated when they expected to stay.
Ethan looked at them.
Then smiled.
“Yeah.”
