The CEO Shoved an Elderly Woman Asking for Bread—Then Learned She Owned the Company
Chapter 11
The next morning, Victoria walked into Margaret’s office.
The receptionist tried to stop her.
“I don’t have an appointment.”
Victoria placed a flash drive on the desk.
“Tell her this is about the money.”
Five minutes later, Margaret invited her inside.
Victoria entered.
Neither woman spoke at first.
Then Victoria placed the flash drive on the table.
“I owe you an apology.”
Margaret looked at her.
“Yes.”
Victoria swallowed.
“I treated you terribly.”
“Yes.”
“I thought you were a helpless old woman.”
Margaret’s expression softened slightly.
“That was your first mistake.”
Victoria nodded.
“I know.”
She sat down.
“Your company has been robbed.”
Margaret’s eyes narrowed.
“I know.”
“Not by me.”
“I suspected.”
Victoria looked surprised.
Margaret continued.
“I’ve been investigating.”
Victoria handed her a folder.
“I found this.”
Margaret studied it.
“Someone used my credentials before I became CEO.”
Margaret looked up.
“Why bring this to me?”
Victoria hesitated.
“Because I don’t want the company destroyed.”
Margaret leaned back.
“You could have walked away.”
“I could have.”
“Why didn’t you?”
Victoria looked down.
“Because my father worked for this company.”
Margaret said nothing.
“He used to bring me here when I was a child.”
Victoria’s voice softened.
“He told me Whitmore Foods was different.”
Margaret watched her.
“What happened?”
“I forgot.”
Margaret closed the folder.
“Perhaps.”
Victoria looked at her.
“Do you hate me?”
Margaret shook her head.
“No.”
“After yesterday?”
“I don’t hate you.”
Margaret looked toward the window.
“I was disappointed.”
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears.
“That is worse.”
Margaret smiled sadly.
“It can also be repaired.”
She stood.
“Come with me.”
“Where?”
“To the archives.”
