Single Mom Warned Him Three Times to Stop — 5 Seconds Later, She Shocked Everyone Watching

Chapter 3

Olivia didn’t tell Noah about the message.

She waited until they got home.

Their apartment was on the third floor of an old brick building on the South Side.

Two bedrooms.

One bathroom.

A kitchen barely large enough for two people.

But it was theirs.

Noah dropped his backpack on the couch.

“Can we order pizza?”

“We have food.”

“Pizza is food.”

Olivia smiled.

“You’re becoming your grandmother.”

Noah grinned.

Her mother had died two years earlier.

Since then, Olivia had been raising Noah alone.

His father had disappeared before Noah was born.

No calls.

No visits.

No child support.

Nothing.

Olivia had stopped expecting anything.

She had built her life around one principle:

If you wanted something done, you did it yourself.

That afternoon, she checked the windows.

Locked the doors.

Then she called her supervisor.

“I won’t be able to come in Monday.”

There was silence.

“You sure?”

“Yes.”

“Olivia, you saved Reed’s CEO today.”

“I know.”

“They’re asking about you.”

“Who?”

“Everybody.”

She sighed.

“I don’t want publicity.”

Her supervisor lowered his voice.

“That’s probably not your choice anymore.”

Olivia ended the call.

A knock came at the door.

She froze.

Noah was in the bedroom.

“Mom?”

“Stay there.”

She approached the door.

“Who is it?”

A man’s voice answered.

“Delivery.”

“I didn’t order anything.”

Silence.

Then:

“Wrong apartment.”

Footsteps moved away.

Olivia waited.

Then looked through the peephole.

Nobody.

She didn’t open the door.

Instead, she called the police.

An officer arrived twenty minutes later.

They checked the hallway.

Nothing.

No package.

No person.

No evidence.

The officer gave her a card.

“If anything happens, call us.”

Olivia nodded.

That night, she barely slept.

At 2:14 a.m., her phone rang.

Daniel Reed.

She almost didn’t answer.

“Hello?”

“Are you safe?”

Olivia sat up.

“Yes.”

“Did someone contact you?”

She froze.

“How did you know?”

“I received the same message.”

She looked at the dark room.

“What message?”

“Someone told me you should have let me die.”

Olivia said nothing.

Daniel continued.

“I’m sending security.”

“No.”

“Olivia.”

“I don’t need security.”

“This isn’t about pride.”

“I know.”

“Then let me protect you.”

She sighed.

“Why?”

“Because this is my fault.”

“No.”

“You were dragged into this because of me.”

“You were the one who ignored my warning.”

A pause.

Then Daniel laughed quietly.

“You’re right.”

Olivia almost smiled.

“What happened to your engineer?”

“Missing.”

“Marcus?”

“Yes.”

“And the others?”

“Being questioned.”

Olivia thought.

“Then look at the access logs.”

“We are.”

“No.”

“What?”

“Don’t just look at who accessed the system.”

She got out of bed.

“Look at who changed the permissions.”

Daniel became silent.

Olivia opened her laptop.

She had worked with industrial control systems long enough to understand how they were structured.

“Someone didn’t simply disable the safety mechanism.”

“How do you know?”

“They changed the hierarchy.”

“Meaning?”

“They made the machine think the emergency system was lower priority than the demonstration sequence.”

Daniel inhaled sharply.

“Can you prove it?”

“I can try.”

“Olivia—”

“I’ll call you back.”

She ended the call.

For the next three hours, she studied every technical document she could find.

At 5:43 a.m., she found it.

A permissions change.

Made from inside Reed Industrial’s headquarters.

But there was something strange.

The authorization code belonged to Daniel.

Olivia stared at the screen.

Then she realized what it meant.

Someone had cloned Daniel’s credentials.

At 5:44 a.m., her laptop went black.

A single sentence appeared.

STOP HELPING HIM.

Olivia stared at it.

Then another message appeared.

YOUR SON WILL BE NEXT.

Her hands went cold.

She immediately closed the laptop.

Then she ran into Noah’s room.

He was asleep.

Olivia stood beside his bed.

For the first time in years, she felt completely helpless.

Then her phone buzzed.

A message from Daniel.

I’m coming to you now.
