Graham wasn’t alone.
Two security guards stood behind him.
Victoria rose slowly.
“How did you get in?”
He smiled.
“I’ve had access for years.”
Daniel stood beside her.
“You killed Sarah.”
Graham’s smile disappeared.
“No.”
He looked at Daniel.
“Sarah made a mistake.”
“She was going to expose you.”
“She wasn’t the first.”
Victoria stared.
“How many?”
“Enough.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“You used my account.”
“Yes.”
“You killed my wife.”
Graham’s expression remained calm.
“I gave someone an order.”
Daniel moved toward him.
Victoria stopped him.
“Don’t.”
Graham laughed.
“Still protecting people, Victoria?”
She stared at him.
“My father knew.”
“Of course.”
“Did you kill him too?”
Graham shook his head.
“No.”
He smiled.
“He died believing he had failed everyone.”
Victoria’s face tightened.
That was crueler than any confession.
Daniel looked at the guards.
“You’re not leaving.”
Graham raised an eyebrow.
“Why not?”
“Because you’re going to prison.”
Graham laughed.
“Do you really think a few documents can destroy me?”
Victoria reached for the laptop.
“They aren’t the only documents.”
She pressed a key.
The screen changed.
A live feed appeared.
News networks.
Federal investigators.
Three international law firms.
Daniel stared.
“What did you do?”
Victoria smiled.
“I sent everything.”
Graham’s face changed.
“When?”
“Three minutes ago.”
He lunged.
The guards moved.
Suddenly the room filled with shouting.
The doors opened.
Federal agents rushed in.
Graham turned.
He was surrounded.
For the first time, his calm disappeared.
“You can’t do this.”
An agent placed him in handcuffs.
“You’ve been under investigation for years.”
Graham looked at Victoria.
“Your company is finished.”
Victoria answered,
“No.”
She looked at Daniel.
“We’re rebuilding it.”
Graham was taken away.
The office became silent.
Daniel exhaled.
Then his phone rang.
Lily.
“Hi, sweetheart.”
“Daddy?”
“Yes?”
“Are you coming home?”
Daniel looked at Victoria.
She smiled.
“Yes.”
“Is Victoria coming?”
Daniel laughed.
He looked at her.
“Do you want her to?”
Lily’s voice came through the speaker.
“Yes.”
Victoria rolled her eyes.
“Children are terrifying.”
Daniel smiled.
“They are.”
Then Lily said something that made both adults fall silent.
“Daddy?”
“Yeah?”
“I think you should marry her.”
Daniel looked at Victoria.
Victoria stared at him.
Neither spoke.
Then Lily added,
“She makes you happy.”
The call ended.
Silence.
Victoria broke it.
“Your daughter is dangerous.”
Daniel laughed.
“So I’ve been told.”
But neither of them could stop smiling.
