She’s With Me — Single Dad Spoke Calmly, The Billionaire Heiress Stood Frozen at the Table

Chapter 5

They went to a small café across town.

Victoria wore a plain coat and no jewelry.

Daniel almost laughed when he saw her.

“You still hate being unnoticed?”

“I’ve had ten years to learn.”

Emma sat beside Lily while Daniel faced Victoria.

Victoria placed an envelope on the table.

“I found this in my father’s office last year.”

Daniel did not touch it.

“What is it?”

“Your original contract.”

His expression hardened.

Victoria opened it.

There were signatures.

Dates.

A confidential agreement.

Daniel read the first page.

Then the second.

His face slowly lost color.

Victoria whispered:

“You signed this.”

“I had no choice.”

“You promised never to contact me again.”

Daniel said nothing.

“You promised to disappear.”

“I know.”

“And in exchange, my father would drop the charges against your business.”

Daniel looked at her.

“He also promised to protect you.”

Victoria laughed bitterly.

“Protect me from what?”

Daniel’s hand closed around the paper.

“Ask him.”

Victoria leaned closer.

“I already did.”

Daniel looked up.

“And?”

“He denied everything.”

“Of course.”

“But there was something else.”

She removed a photograph.

Daniel stared at it.

It showed his late wife, Rebecca.

Taken years ago.

Outside a hospital.

Daniel stopped breathing.

Victoria watched him.

“My investigators found her name in an Ashford security report.”

Emma looked toward Daniel.

He closed his eyes.

Rebecca had not died from an ordinary accident.

Her car had been forced off a bridge.

Daniel had spent seven years believing it was connected to an old business dispute.

Victoria placed another document beside the photograph.

“Someone inside my father’s company ordered surveillance on her.”

Daniel looked at the signature.

Charles Ashford.

Lily shifted in her chair.

“Daddy?”

Daniel folded the documents.

“Nothing.”

But Emma knew that was a lie.

And Victoria knew something else.

Charles Ashford had not simply destroyed Daniel’s career.

He had watched him for years.
