She Walked Into the Mafia Boss’s Room to Clean—Then His Family Walked In While He Was Still in a Towel
Chapter 13
The wedding was six months later.
It wasn’t the enormous Moretti ceremony everyone expected.
There were no private jets.
No armed convoy.
No hundred-person security detail.
Just family, close friends, and a garden filled with white flowers.
Sofia wore a simple dress.
Matteo wore a dark suit.
Bianca stood beside Sofia.
His mother cried before the ceremony even started.
When Sofia reached Matteo, he smiled.
“You’re late.”
She laughed.
“You waited.”
“Always.”
The ceremony was beautiful.
Simple.
Honest.
Afterward, Sofia found herself alone with Matteo beneath the old oak tree.
“Do you remember the first night?”
He smiled.
“The towel?”
She covered her face.
“Why do you enjoy this?”
“Because you still turn red.”
“Stop.”
He laughed.
She looked at him.
“I really thought you were going to fire me.”
“I almost did.”
Her eyes widened.
“What?”
“Because you were distracting.”
She smiled.
“That sounds like a terrible excuse.”
“It was.”
She stepped closer.
“Did you know then?”
“Know what?”
“That you’d marry me.”
“No.”
“When did you know?”
He thought.
“The night you gave me the ledger.”
She frowned.
“That was not romantic.”
“It wasn’t.”
He touched her hand.
“It was the first time you trusted me with your fear.”
She looked into his eyes.
“And you?”
“I trusted you with mine.”
She smiled.
Then she asked,
“Do you ever miss the old life?”
“No.”
“Not even the power?”
“No.”
“Why?”
He looked around.
Because the old life had taught him everything about fear.
His new life had taught him what safety felt like.
He kissed her.
“Because I have you.”
She smiled.
Behind them, Bianca called,
“Dinner!”
Matteo sighed.
“Family.”
Sofia laughed.
“Wouldn’t trade it.”
They walked toward the house.
She stopped briefly at the entrance.
The same house where she had once walked into the wrong bedroom.
The same hallway where his family had found him wearing only a towel.
The place where embarrassment had become rumor.
Rumor had become curiosity.
Curiosity had become trust.
And trust had become love.
She smiled.
Then followed Matteo inside.
