She Walked Into the Mafia Boss’s Room to Clean—Then His Family Walked In While He Was Still in a Towel

Chapter 11

The kiss changed everything.

There was no going back.

Sofia knew it.

Matteo knew it.

Even Bianca knew it.

She found them sitting together in the estate garden the next morning and smiled.

“Finally.”

Matteo looked annoyed.

“Don’t.”

Bianca laughed.

“I’ve been waiting months.”

Sofia smiled.

“You’re impossible.”

“Yes.”

She sat beside Sofia.

“You make him different.”

“How?”

“He sleeps.”

Sofia laughed.

Matteo shook his head.

“She exaggerates.”

Bianca looked at him.

“You slept seven hours.”

Matteo paused.

“That was unrelated.”

Sofia smiled.

Later that day, Sofia met Matteo’s mother.

The older woman approached quietly.

“You should know something.”

Sofia looked at her.

“What?”

“Your mother loved this family.”

Sofia was surprised.

“After everything?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because she believed people could change.”

Sofia looked away.

“She was wrong about some.”

“She was right about Matteo.”

Sofia smiled.

His mother continued.

“Your mother protected him too.”

“How?”

“She once stopped your grandfather from using Matteo as a pawn.”

Sofia stared.

“Why?”

“Because Matteo was young.”

“And my mother knew him?”

“Yes.”

Sofia looked across the garden.

Matteo was speaking to Bianca.

She watched him.

Now she understood why he was protective.

He had grown up surrounded by people who used love as leverage.

He had learned early that weakness could be weaponized.

Yet somehow, he had still chosen to care.

That evening, Sofia found him alone in his office.

“You knew my mother protected you.”

“Yes.”

“How?”

“My mother told me.”

“When?”

“Last year.”

“Before I arrived?”

“Yes.”

She frowned.

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you were already grieving.”

She sat beside him.

“You always decide what people can handle.”

“Yes.”

“That’s annoying.”

“I know.”

She smiled.

He reached for her hand.

“I’ve been trying to protect you.”

“I know.”

“But I forgot that you can protect yourself.”

She nodded.

“I’m not asking you to stop.”

“What are you asking?”

“To trust me.”

He looked at her.

“I do.”

“No.”

She leaned closer.

“Trust me enough to tell me the truth, even when it’s ugly.”

He nodded.

“Okay.”

Then he told her.

His father had not ordered her mother’s disappearance.

The order had come from Antonio.

He had forged the documents.

He had blamed Richard.

And her mother had known.

She had disappeared because she knew Antonio would eventually come for Sofia.

Sofia cried.

Matteo pulled her into his arms.

“I’m sorry.”

She held him tightly.

“My mother protected you.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because she believed you would need someone someday.”

Sofia looked up.

“Did she know you’d fall in love with me?”

Matteo smiled faintly.

“I don’t think anyone could have planned that.”

Sofia laughed.

“Good.”

Then his phone rang.

He answered.

His expression changed.

“What?”

He listened.

“Where?”

He ended the call.

“What?”

“Antonio has been found.”

“Where?”

Matteo looked at her.

“At the cemetery.”

“Our parents’ cemetery?”

“Yes.”

They drove there.

Antonio stood between the graves.

But he wasn’t alone.

A man stood beside him.

Sofia recognized him.

The estate’s head accountant.

The man who had always been polite to her.

Matteo’s eyes narrowed.

“He’s the traitor.”

The accountant smiled.

“You’re finally learning.”
