She Walked Into the Mafia Boss’s Room to Clean—Then His Family Walked In While He Was Still in a Towel

Chapter 10

The missing pages contained one name.

One name powerful enough to frighten even Matteo.

Antonio Moretti.

His grandfather.

Everyone believed he had died twenty-five years earlier.

He hadn’t.

He had disappeared.

Built a second identity.

And continued directing the family’s darkest operations from a distance.

Matteo stared at the page.

“My grandfather.”

Sofia looked at him.

“He’s alive.”

“Yes.”

“And he has the missing pages.”

“Yes.”

She swallowed.

“Then Carlo wasn’t the biggest threat.”

“No.”

“Antonio was.”

Matteo nodded.

He told his security team to find him.

But Antonio found them first.

That evening, a message arrived.

Bring Sofia to the old church. Alone.

Matteo immediately refused.

Then a second message.

Or Bianca dies.

Matteo’s face changed.

Sofia stared at him.

“Where is she?”

A photograph arrived.

Bianca tied to a chair.

Sofia stood.

“Go.”

“No.”

“Matteo.”

“I’ll handle it.”

“She’ll die because of me.”

“No.”

He stepped closer.

“Nothing happens to you.”

“Then let me help.”

He looked at her.

Finally, he nodded.

They went to the church.

Antonio waited in the dark.

He was old.

Elegant.

Calm.

His eyes reminded Matteo of childhood.

“You’ve grown.”

Matteo stared.

“You kidnapped my sister.”

“I wanted your attention.”

“You could have called.”

“That wouldn’t have worked.”

Sofia stepped forward.

“Where is Bianca?”

“Safe.”

Antonio looked at her.

“So you’re Margaret’s daughter.”

“Yes.”

“You don’t look like her.”

“That’s because you never knew her.”

Antonio smiled.

“She was brave.”

“You knew she was protecting me?”

“Yes.”

“You let her die?”

His expression changed.

“I didn’t kill her.”

“Then who did?”

Antonio sighed.

“People who wanted her evidence.”

Sofia’s voice shook.

“You were one of them.”

“Yes.”

Matteo stepped forward.

“You used her.”

“No.”

Antonio looked at him.

“I protected the family.”

“You destroyed it.”

Antonio smiled.

“Families survive by sacrificing one person.”

Matteo’s expression hardened.

“Not mine.”

Antonio looked at Sofia.

“You know what’s inside the missing pages?”

“No.”

“Your mother named the person who ordered her disappearance.”

Sofia’s heart stopped.

“Who?”

Antonio looked at Matteo.

“His father.”

Matteo froze.

“My father?”

Antonio nodded.

“He believed your mother knew too much.”

Sofia’s face went pale.

Matteo shook his head.

“He wouldn’t.”

“He did.”

Sofia looked at Matteo.

“Did your father order my mother’s disappearance?”

Matteo’s voice was quiet.

“I don’t know.”

Antonio smiled.

“You see? The truth is always ugly.”

Sofia stepped closer.

“Where is Bianca?”

“Release her.”

Antonio gestured.

Two men brought Bianca out.

She was unharmed.

Sofia exhaled.

Antonio looked at Matteo.

“You have a choice.”

“I’m listening.”

“Take control of the old organization.”

“And?”

“Give me Sofia.”

Matteo’s face became terrifyingly still.

“No.”

Antonio smiled.

“I thought so.”

He lifted a remote.

The church doors locked.

Gas began filling the room.

Sofia coughed.

Matteo grabbed her hand.

“Stay with me.”

She nodded.

Antonio walked away.

“You have five minutes.”

Matteo searched for an exit.

Sofia looked around.

Then noticed the old stained-glass window.

A narrow maintenance door beneath it.

“There!”

They ran.

Matteo kicked the door open.

They escaped into the alley.

Antonio vanished.

Bianca was safe.

But Sofia was shaking.

Matteo held her.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes.”

“You’re lying.”

She smiled through tears.

“Maybe.”

He touched her face.

“I will never give you to him.”

Her eyes filled.

“I know.”

Then he kissed her.

Not because the moment was perfect.

Because he had almost lost her.

And neither of them wanted to pretend anymore.
