She Took the Last Seat Beside a Scarred Stranger—Then the Whole Train Fell Terrifyingly Silent

Chapter 4

The doors remained open.

Beyond them was darkness.

No platform.

No station.

Just blackness.

Passengers began moving toward the exits.

The elderly man stood.

His eyes were empty.

The woman across the aisle whispered:

“Michael?”

Then she stepped toward the door.

Emily grabbed her.

“Don’t!”

The woman looked confused.

“That’s my husband.”

“He’s not there.”

“You don’t know that.”

“He isn’t.”

The woman pulled away.

She walked through the doorway.

Emily watched her disappear into the darkness.

There was no scream.

No sound of footsteps.

Nothing.

The door remained open.

Daniel grabbed Emily’s hand.

“We have to move.”

“Where?”

“Forward.”

“Why?”

“The control car.”

“Can we stop the train?”

“If we can reach it.”

They moved through the carriage.

The other passengers were disappearing one by one.

Some walked willingly.

Others followed voices.

A man kept repeating his son’s name.

Another woman smiled as she walked into the darkness.

Emily couldn’t understand how they could behave so calmly.

Then she noticed something.

None of the people who had disappeared left footprints.

The floor was wet from rain.

But where they walked, there were no footprints.

“Daniel.”

“What?”

“Look.”

He saw it.

His expression changed.

“They aren’t really walking.”

“What?”

“They’re being pulled.”

Emily stared.

The disappearing passengers weren’t stepping into the darkness.

They were sliding toward it.

Something was dragging them.

Daniel pulled Emily forward.

“Run.”

They reached the next carriage.

The door slammed shut behind them.

Emily looked back.

A pale hand pressed against the glass.

Then another.

Then dozens.

People who had disappeared were standing on the other side.

Their faces were pressed against the window.

Emily screamed.

Daniel dragged her away.

“Don’t look.”

The hands vanished.

The train started moving.

Emily stumbled.

“Where are we?”

“Car five.”

“And the control car?”

“Three cars ahead.”

They moved quickly.

Then Emily noticed something.

The passengers in this carriage were completely different.

They were older.

Their clothes looked outdated.

A man wore a military uniform.

A woman held an old leather suitcase.

A child sat alone beside the window.

Emily looked at Daniel.

“These aren’t the passengers from our train.”

“No.”

“Then who are they?”

Daniel looked at the date printed on a newspaper lying on the seat.

It was twenty years old.

Emily felt sick.

“We’re moving through time.”

Daniel nodded.

“That’s what I think.”

The train wasn’t traveling through ordinary space.

It was moving through something else.

Every carriage seemed to belong to a different year.

They entered another car.

The newspaper date changed again.

Thirty-two years ago.

Then forty.

Then six.

Daniel suddenly stopped.

Emily nearly collided with him.

“What?”

He pointed.

At the end of the carriage sat a little girl.

Eight years old.

Brown hair.

Red sweater.

White shoes.

Daniel stopped breathing.

Emily knew immediately.

“Is that…”

“My daughter.”

The girl looked up.

“Daddy?”

Daniel began walking toward her.

Emily grabbed his arm.

“Wait.”

The girl smiled.

“You came back.”

Daniel stared.

“You’ve been waiting?”

She nodded.

“For six years.”

Emily felt tears in her eyes.

The girl looked at her.

“Who is she?”

Daniel said:

“Her name is Emily.”

The girl smiled.

“She’s the one.”

Emily frowned.

“The one what?”

The girl looked toward the front of the train.

“The one who can make it stop.”

Daniel looked at Emily.

“What does she mean?”

The girl didn’t answer.

Instead, she pointed at Emily’s wrist.

Emily looked down.

She was wearing her mother’s old silver watch.

She had worn it every day since childhood.

The girl’s expression became serious.

“That’s why the train let you on.”

Emily stared at the watch.

“What is it?”

The girl whispered:

“The key.”
