She Hired the Poor Scholarship Student to Save Her Grades — Then She Fell for the One Guy She Was Afraid to Love
Chapter 7
Three days passed.
Ethan didn’t tutor her.
Madison’s grades didn’t matter anymore.
She missed him.
Not the lessons.
Him.
She found him at the library.
“I’m sorry.”
He looked up.
“For what?”
“For pretending I was embarrassed by you.”
He said nothing.
“I wasn’t embarrassed by you.”
“Then what were you embarrassed by?”
“Myself.”
That made him look at her.
“I like you.”
He froze.
Madison’s heart raced.
“I know I shouldn’t.”
“Why?”
“Because everyone expects me to be with someone like me.”
“And what do you want?”
She swallowed.
“You.”
He looked away.
“Madison.”
“I know.”
“This is complicated.”
“I know.”
“You’re my student.”
“Then I’ll stop being your student.”
She reached into her bag and pulled out the resignation form she had already signed for a different tutor.
“I just didn’t want to lie anymore.”
Ethan stared at her.
Then he smiled.
“I was wondering how long it would take you.”
She blinked.
“You knew?”
“I knew.”
“And you said nothing?”
“I was waiting for you to say it because I wanted to know it was real.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
She laughed.
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
She smiled.
“No. I really don’t.”
