She Fell Into a Single Dad’s Arms at Work — Then One Quiet Whisper Made Them Both Believe in Love Again
Chapter 10
Their wedding took place at a small country estate.
Not one of Victoria’s properties.
A rented venue.
Wooden tables.
White flowers.
A lake.
Lily stood beside them.
Michael’s family came.
Victoria’s father came.
For once, the two worlds existed in the same room.
During the vows, Michael spoke first.
“I spent years believing that loving someone again meant betraying the person I lost.”
He looked toward Lily.
“Then my daughter taught me that love isn’t something you divide.”
“It’s something you expand.”
Victoria cried.
He continued:
“You walked into my life because you almost fell.”
She smiled.
“And somehow, you’ve spent every day since then teaching me how to stand.”
Victoria’s voice shook.
“I spent years believing that if I controlled everything, I could prevent losing anyone.”
She looked at Michael.
“Then you taught me that control isn’t safety.”
“Trust is.”
She took his hands.
“I don’t promise we’ll never be afraid.”
“I promise we won’t face fear alone.”
They married.
Lily cried.
Everyone laughed.
After the ceremony, Michael whispered:
“Are you happy?”
Victoria smiled.
“For the first time, I think I am.”
He kissed her.
They danced.
Later that night, Lily found them sitting by the lake.
“Are you both still awake?”
Michael smiled.
“Yes.”
“Good.”
She sat between them.
“This is my favorite day.”
Victoria laughed.
“Mine too.”
Lily looked at them.
“You know what I think?”
“What?”
“Mom would be happy.”
Michael froze.
He looked at her.
Lily continued:
“And Dad too.”
Victoria understood.
They were talking about the people they had lost.
The people who had shaped them.
The wounds that had made them afraid.
The love that had survived anyway.
They sat quietly.
Then Michael whispered:
“She’s right.”
Victoria took his hand.
“I think so too.”
