My Wife Took A Phone Call During Dinner And Forgot I Speak Spanish
Chapter 7
They went to the warehouse.
Not alone.
Daniel insisted.
Sophia contacted Victor secretly.
Victor arrived with two people Daniel had never seen.
The warehouse was dark.
Broken windows.
Dust.
Old machinery.
Daniel looked around.
“This place feels familiar.”
Sophia nodded.
“You’ve been here.”
“When?”
“Before our wedding.”
Daniel frowned.
He remembered fragments.
His father arguing.
Michael shouting.
A child crying.
Then everything went blank.
Sophia watched him.
“You were here the night your father disappeared.”
Daniel’s heart pounded.
“What happened?”
“Your father found out Michael was stealing from the trust.”
“And?”
“He confronted him.”
“Then?”
“You were hit.”
Daniel touched his head.
“You said I had an accident.”
“I lied.”
He stared at her.
“You erased years from my memory.”
“No.”
“You told me I fell.”
“I protected you.”
Daniel shook his head.
“This is too much.”
Then Victor entered.
“Daniel.”
Daniel turned.
For the first time, he saw the man from the photographs.
Victor looked older.
But his eyes were unmistakable.
“You knew me.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Isabella was mine.”
“Yes.”
“You let me believe she didn’t exist.”
Victor lowered his head.
“I had no choice.”
Daniel stepped closer.
“You all made choices for me.”
Victor accepted it.
“You’re right.”
Then the lights came on.
A man stood on the second-floor balcony.
Michael.
Daniel froze.
His brother.
Alive.
Older.
Cold.
Michael smiled.
“Hello, little brother.”
Daniel could barely speak.
“You’re alive.”
“Obviously.”
Sophia raised her weapon.
Michael laughed.
“You brought protection.”
Victor stepped forward.
“Release Isabella.”
Michael shook his head.
“She is the reason we’re here.”
“What do you want?”
“The trust.”
Daniel said:
“You’ve controlled it for years.”
“Yes.”
“So give it to me.”
Michael smiled.
“You don’t understand.”
He pointed at Daniel.
“Your father did not leave you money.”
Daniel frowned.
“He left you evidence.”
He threw a file down.
Daniel picked it up.
Inside were financial records.
Millions had passed through Daniel’s name.
His father had used him as a legal shield.
The inheritance wasn’t money.
It was control of Meridian’s hidden assets.
Michael wanted the archive.
“Where is Isabella?”
“Safe.”
“Bring her out.”
“Not yet.”
Sophia stepped forward.
“You promised.”
Michael smiled.
“I promised nothing.”
Victor whispered:
“He never intended to release her.”
Michael looked at him.
“You should have stayed dead.”
Then gunfire erupted.
Everyone scattered.
Daniel pulled Sophia behind cover.
Victor fired back.
Michael’s men flooded the warehouse.
Daniel and Sophia ran through a side corridor.
They found a locked room.
Inside was Isabella.
She was terrified.
“Mom!”
Sophia rushed toward her.
Isabella looked at Daniel.
“Who are you?”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
He knelt.
“My name is Daniel.”
She stared.
“I know.”
Daniel smiled through tears.
“I’ve seen your drawings.”
She looked at Sophia.
“Mom?”
Sophia nodded.
Daniel whispered:
“I’m your father.”
Isabella stared.
Then she stepped backward.
“No.”
Daniel’s heart broke.
“It’s okay.”
She shook her head.
“You’re lying.”
“I wish I could say I wasn’t.”
Sophia hugged her.
“We’re going to get you out.”
Footsteps approached.
Daniel locked the door.
Victor’s voice came through the radio.
“Move now.”
They escaped through a service tunnel.
Michael’s men followed.
At the end of the tunnel, they reached the river.
A vehicle waited.
They climbed inside.
Daniel held Isabella.
For the first time in six years, he held his daughter.
She was shaking.
He whispered:
“I’m sorry.”
She asked:
“For what?”
“For not knowing you sooner.”
She looked at him.
“It wasn’t your fault.”
Daniel started crying.
Then Sophia said:
“Daniel…”
He looked up.
“What?”
She pointed toward the road.
Michael’s car was following them.
And inside it was a woman Daniel had trusted for years.
His mother.
