My Husband Slapped Me At The Hospital… Then My Father Did Something Nobody Expected. Chapt

Chapter 8

That night, Emily moved her father to a private secure facility.

The hospital had agreed after police intervention.

Only a handful of people knew the location.

Emily stayed beside Thomas.

He was awake but weak.

“Did you find him?” he asked.

“Victor?”

Thomas nodded.

“Yes.”

Thomas closed his eyes.

“I was hoping you never would.”

Emily took his hand.

“Dad, why didn’t you tell me everything?”

“Because I wanted you to have a normal life.”

“I don’t have one now.”

“I know.”

Emily looked at him.

“Did Mom really know Victor killed her?”

Thomas swallowed.

“She suspected.”

“Did you?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did you stay silent?”

“Because I was afraid.”

Emily had never heard her father say that.

Thomas continued.

“I was afraid that if I accused him without proof, he’d come after you.”

“He came after me anyway.”

“I know.”

His voice broke.

“I failed you.”

Emily squeezed his hand.

“No.”

She leaned forward.

“You protected me with everything you had.”

Thomas looked at her.

“But I also taught you something wrong.”

“What?”

“I taught you that being strong meant carrying everything alone.”

Emily smiled through tears.

“What should it mean?”

“Knowing when to ask for help.”

The door opened.

Daniel entered.

“We found something.”

He placed a laptop on the table.

“The original financial records from twenty-five years ago.”

Emily looked at the screen.

There were transactions connecting Victor to several major projects.

But there was something else.

A payment made one week before her mother’s death.

Emily’s heart stopped.

The recipient was a private mechanic.

The description said:

Brake system modification.

Thomas closed his eyes.

Emily stared at the screen.

“So it was him.”

Daniel nodded.

“We can’t prove Victor personally ordered it yet.”

“But we can prove payment.”

“Yes.”

Frank entered.

“We may have enough to get a warrant.”

Emily looked up.

“Then do it.”

Frank shook his head.

“Not yet.”

“Why?”

“Because Victor knows we’re close.”

“What does that matter?”

“He’ll destroy the remaining evidence.”

Daniel nodded.

“We need him to believe he’s winning.”

Emily understood.

They needed a trap.

And she knew exactly how to build it.

“I’ll sign the transfer.”

Everyone stared at her.

Thomas immediately shook his head.

“No.”

“Dad, listen.”

“I won’t let you.”

“We don’t actually transfer anything.”

Daniel understood first.

“A fake agreement.”

Emily nodded.

“We give Victor what he expects.”

“And track where the documents go,” Frank said.

“Exactly.”

Thomas stared at his daughter.

Then slowly smiled.

“You finally learned.”

“Learned what?”

“Never fight a thief by guarding the door.”

He squeezed her hand.

“Let him come inside.”

The plan was set.

Emily prepared the documents.

The fake property transfer would appear legitimate.

Victor would believe he had won.

But every page contained invisible markers.

Every digital file carried tracking data.

And every conversation would be recorded legally.

At midnight, Emily sent the first message.

I’ll sign.

Victor replied almost instantly.

Smart girl.

Emily stared at the screen.

Then another message appeared.

Your mother would have been proud.

Emily’s blood turned cold.

Victor knew exactly how to hurt her.

She typed one final reply.

Tomorrow.

Then she put the phone down.

Daniel asked, “Are you ready?”

Emily looked toward her father’s room.

“No.”

She took a breath.

“But I’m done being afraid.”
