My Husband Slapped Me At The Hospital… Then My Father Did Something Nobody Expected. Chapt
Chapter 6
Ryan came to the hospital the next afternoon.
He didn’t apologize.
He came with flowers.
Emily watched him from the end of the corridor.
He looked tired.
Almost broken.
For a moment, the old Emily wanted to run to him.
Then she remembered the photograph.
The payment.
The note.
The slap.
She stayed where she was.
Ryan approached.
“Can we talk?”
“No.”
“Emily.”
“You need to leave.”
His eyes narrowed.
“Your father is poisoning you against me.”
“My father didn’t put his hands on me.”
Ryan looked away.
“I said I was sorry.”
“You said I made you do it.”
“I was angry.”
“That doesn’t excuse it.”
Ryan lowered his voice.
“Do you know what happens if your father dies?”
Emily said nothing.
“The trust freezes everything.”
Her stomach tightened.
“So that’s what this is about.”
“What?”
“The property.”
Ryan’s expression changed.
“You’re paranoid.”
“You’ve been asking about it for months.”
“I was trying to protect our future.”
“Our future?”
“Yes.”
“You received money from Victor Hale.”
Ryan’s face went completely still.
Emily watched him carefully.
For three seconds, neither moved.
Then Ryan smiled.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Emily turned away.
“Leave.”
Ryan grabbed her wrist.
Emily immediately pulled back.
“Don’t touch me.”
He released her.
A security guard stepped closer.
Ryan looked at him.
Then at Emily.
“This isn’t finished.”
“No,” Emily said.
“It isn’t.”
He walked away.
Daniel appeared beside her.
“Did he admit anything?”
“No.”
“But he reacted.”
Emily nodded.
“That’s enough for now.”
That evening, Thomas’s condition suddenly worsened.
His blood pressure dropped.
Doctors rushed into the room.
Emily stood outside, terrified.
Daniel stayed beside her.
After forty minutes, the doctor emerged.
“He’s stable.”
Emily nearly collapsed with relief.
Then the doctor lowered his voice.
“We found something unusual.”
“What?”
“There was a medication in his system that wasn’t on his chart.”
Emily’s blood ran cold.
“Poison?”
“Not exactly. But the dose could have been dangerous.”
Daniel looked at her.
The fake nurse.
The syringe.
Someone was still trying to kill her father.
The police were called.
Hospital security reviewed footage.
A man had entered Thomas’s floor shortly before his condition changed.
He wore maintenance clothing.
The camera didn’t capture his face.
But it captured something else.
A tattoo on his wrist.
Emily recognized it.
She had seen it before.
On Victor Hale.
Daniel contacted the retired detective who had reopened her mother’s accident case.
His name was Frank Miller.
Frank arrived that night.
He examined the footage.
Then he looked at Emily.
“Your mother wasn’t killed because of money.”
Emily frowned.
“Then why?”
Frank placed a folder on the table.
“Because she discovered something bigger.”
He opened it.
Inside was a corporate registration document.
Victor Hale had once owned a private investment group.
Its investors included politicians, developers, bankers, and several major contractors.
“They were buying land before government development announcements.”
Emily stared.
“How?”
“Insider information.”
“And my father?”
“Your father discovered the network.”
Frank looked at her.
“Your mother discovered it too.”
Daniel asked, “Why would Victor come after Emily now?”
Frank answered immediately.
“Because the Carter property sits directly on land Victor has been trying to acquire for twenty years.”
Emily looked confused.
“What is so important about it?”
Frank opened a map.
Her father’s land was enormous.
A proposed transportation corridor ran directly through it.
If the project was approved, surrounding property values would skyrocket.
Victor didn’t want Emily’s house.
He wanted the land.
But there was another detail.
The corridor couldn’t be approved unless the Carter property was acquired.
Emily finally understood.
“This was never about inheritance.”
Frank nodded.
“It was about control.”
