Amelia’s aunt returned.

She came alone.

“I owe you an apology.”

Amelia stood quietly.

Her aunt looked around the finished section of the cliff.

“You built this yourself.”

“Yes.”

“I was cruel to you.”

“You were.”

Her aunt cried.

“I thought you would disappear.”

“I did.”

Amelia smiled.

“I always was someone.”

Her aunt nodded.

Amelia wasn’t ready to forgive her completely.

“You can stay for the ceremony.”
