He Lost His Memory In A Crash, Then A Small-Town Woman’s Kindness Changed His Life
Chapter 5
New York overwhelmed Alexander.
The city.
The office.
The constant movement.
The security team.
The employees who watched him nervously.
He sat in his penthouse surrounded by expensive things.
Yet he felt like a stranger in his own life.
Sophia visited every day.
She showed him old photographs.
Trips.
Birthdays.
Engagement parties.
She told him stories.
Alexander listened.
He tried to remember.
Nothing.
One afternoon, he returned to his office.
A senior executive handed him a file.
“You need to sign these.”
Alexander looked at the documents.
“What are they?”
“Acquisition papers.”
“For?”
“A manufacturing company in Ohio.”
Alexander frowned.
“Why are we buying it?”
“Because you wanted it.”
That answer bothered him.
He kept reading.
The acquisition would force hundreds of workers out of their jobs.
He looked up.
“Did I approve this?”
“Yes.”
He closed the file.
“Cancel it.”
The executive stared.
“Sir?”
“Cancel it.”
“But the board—”
“I don’t care.”
That evening, Alexander looked through old company records.
He found a pattern.
His company had been acquiring struggling businesses, cutting costs, and reselling assets.
Profitable.
But ruthless.
He didn’t like the man staring back at him in the old photographs anymore.
Then a memory flashed.
Emma.
Standing in her kitchen.
Laughing.
She was holding a pancake.
The memory disappeared.
Alexander sat back.
He wanted to return.
But something stopped him.
Sophia entered.
“You’re thinking about her.”
Alexander looked up.
“Who?”
“Emma.”
He said nothing.
Sophia sat beside him.
“She was kind to you.”
“Yes.”
“You owe her gratitude.”
Alexander nodded.
“But you’re my fiancée.”
He looked at the ring on Sophia’s hand.
“I know.”
“Do you love me?”
Alexander hesitated.
Sophia’s face fell.
“I don’t know.”
She stood.
“Maybe you need more time.”
Alexander watched her leave.
The next morning, a package arrived.
It was from Willow Creek.
Inside was a small notebook.
Emma had written his medication schedule in it.
At the bottom was a note.
You don’t have to rush back. Become whoever you want to be.
Alexander stared at the words.
He made a decision.
He returned to Willow Creek.
Emma opened the door and froze.
“What are you doing here?”
“I don’t know.”
She smiled.
“That’s honest.”
He handed her the notebook.
“I found this.”
“I thought you might need it.”
“You thought about me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Emma looked at him.
“Because I loved the person you could become.”
He froze.
“You loved me?”
She swallowed.
“I think I still do.”
Alexander stared at her.
He couldn’t remember the beginning.
But suddenly, he wanted to know how the story continued.
