He Lost His Memory In A Crash, Then A Small-Town Woman’s Kindness Changed His Life

Chapter 6

Alexander stayed in Willow Creek.

Not as Emma’s guest this time.

As someone trying to discover himself.

He worked part-time at the local garage.

He helped repair trucks.

Fixed farm equipment.

Carried boxes for neighbors.

People initially laughed.

The billionaire CEO working in a small-town garage?

But Alexander didn’t care.

He liked the simplicity.

Emma watched him change.

He became patient.

Less guarded.

More willing to listen.

One evening, they sat on the porch.

“Do you think I’m different?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“Better?”

Emma smiled.

“Different.”

“That wasn’t the answer.”

She laughed.

“You’re more present.”

He looked at her.

“I was never like this before?”

“I don’t know.”

She paused.

“I only know the person I met.”

Alexander smiled.

“I like him.”

“So do I.”

Their relationship deepened.

But the past wasn’t finished.

One afternoon, a newspaper arrived.

A headline caught Alexander’s attention.

REED MERIDIAN FACES INTERNAL FRAUD INVESTIGATION

He read the article.

Millions had been moved through shell companies.

Several executives were under investigation.

And the company’s board wanted Alexander back immediately.

Michael arrived.

“We need you.”

Alexander looked at him.

“Did I know about the fraud?”

Michael hesitated.

“I don’t know.”

“You’re my attorney.”

“I’ve always protected you.”

“From what?”

Michael sat down.

“There were people around you who were stealing.”

“Did I know?”

“We think you suspected.”

Alexander stared.

“Why don’t I remember?”

“Because of the accident.”

Michael handed him a file.

“Before the crash, you were preparing to confront the board.”

Alexander opened it.

Notes.

Names.

Accounts.

A photograph.

Sophia.

Alexander stared.

“What does she have to do with this?”

Michael looked away.

“We don’t know.”

Emma sat quietly nearby.

Alexander looked at her.

“I have to go back.”

Emma nodded.

“I know.”

He took her hand.

“I don’t want to.”

“I know.”

“But I need to know who I was.”

Emma squeezed his fingers.

“Then go find out.”

He kissed her forehead.

“I’ll come back.”

She smiled.

“You better.”

Alexander returned to New York.

This time, he wasn’t the same man.

He ordered an independent audit.

He suspended several executives.

He questioned every major transaction.

Then he found something.

A payment.

From Reed Meridian.

To a private company owned by Sophia’s father.

Alexander stared at the screen.

Sophia had told him her family had never benefited from his business.

The record suggested otherwise.

He called her.

“Did you know about this?”

She went silent.

“Alex…”

“Answer me.”

“I can explain.”

His heart sank.

“Then explain.”

She said:

“You weren’t supposed to remember.”

Alexander froze.

“What did you say?”

Sophia hung up.

He stared at the phone.

Then another memory struck.

Sophia standing in the hospital.

Whispering to someone:

“If he remembers, we’re finished.”

Alexander’s blood ran cold.
