Michael slowly turned toward Margaret.
She looked devastated.
“No.”
Michael stared at her.
“Tell me he’s lying.”
Margaret couldn’t speak.
Daniel looked at her.
“Margaret.”
She sat down.
“I never wanted this.”
Michael’s voice shook.
“You created Northstar?”
Margaret nodded.
“Before your father.”
Michael felt like the ground had disappeared beneath him.
She explained everything.
Decades earlier, Margaret had worked as a property analyst.
She discovered that several rural regions contained resources that could transform the economy.
She developed a plan to consolidate the land and build infrastructure.
Her original intention had been legitimate.
But Eleanor saw the opportunity.
She persuaded Margaret to bring Richard into the project.

“Daniel knew?”
Daniel nodded.

Michael looked at him.
“You all knew.”
“We were trying to protect you.”
Michael shook his head.
“I didn’t need protection. I needed the truth.”
Margaret began crying.
“You’re right.”
Then Thomas interrupted.
“We don’t have time.”
Everyone looked at him.
“Eleanor knows we found the recording.”
A vehicle approached outside.
Then another.
Thomas looked through the window.
“She’s here.”
Margaret stood.
“Then it’s time.”
Michael looked at her.
“Time for what?”
She reached into her coat.
She pulled out a small USB drive.
“The original Northstar files.”
Michael stared.
“You had them?”
“I’ve had them for twenty years.”
“Why?”
“Because one day, I knew someone would need to expose everything.”
Outside, doors slammed.
Eleanor’s voice echoed through the house.
“Margaret!”
Margaret walked toward the front door.
Michael grabbed her arm.
“Don’t.”
She smiled sadly.
“I started this.”
She handed him the drive.
“You finish it.”
The door opened.
Eleanor stood outside.
Federal agents surrounded her.
But the deputy director was with her.
He pointed a weapon toward Michael.
Eleanor smiled.
“Family reunions are always complicated.”
Margaret stepped forward.
“You won’t win.”
Eleanor laughed.
“I already did.”
Then sirens filled the street.
Dozens of federal vehicles surrounded the property.
The deputy director looked around.
He realized he had been exposed.
Thomas had transmitted everything live.
Eleanor’s smile disappeared.
Agents moved in.
