Billionaire Woman Went to a Party Dressed Poor—Everyone Rejected Her Except a Kindhearted Single Dad
Chapter 11
The vault had an emergency exit.
Daniel found it hidden beneath a wall panel.
They escaped through a narrow tunnel.
By the time they reached the surface, police sirens were approaching.
Victoria’s security team arrived.
Margaret was gone.
But she had left a message.
Come to the board meeting alone.
Victoria wanted to go.
Daniel refused.
“You’re not going alone.”
“She asked for me.”
“She wants you isolated.”
“What if she hurts someone?”
Daniel stared.
“That is exactly why I’m coming.”
The board meeting was held the next morning.
Everyone attended.
Margaret sat at the head of the table.
She looked calm.
Victoria walked in with Daniel.
Margaret smiled.
“So this is your husband.”
“Yes.”
Margaret laughed.
“Do you know why he married you?”
Daniel answered:
“Yes.”
“Money.”
“No.”
Margaret leaned back.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Daniel placed a folder on the table.
“Do you?”
Her smile disappeared.
Victoria opened the first document.
Bank transfers.
Shell companies.
Unauthorized loans.
Blackwell agreements.
Margaret’s face hardened.
“This is incomplete.”
“Then complete it.”
Silence.
The CFO stood.
“This is absurd.”
Victoria looked at him.
“You’re next.”
He sat down.
Margaret laughed.
“You think the board will believe you?”
Victoria opened another file.
“The independent auditors already do.”
The door opened.
Auditors entered.
Then federal investigators.
Margaret stared.
“Who called them?”
Daniel smiled.
“Your mistake.”
“What mistake?”
“You assumed Victoria was alone.”
Margaret looked at him.
“This marriage is fake.”
Daniel replied:
“It was.”
Victoria looked at him.
Her heart skipped.
Margaret smiled.
“So you admit it.”
Daniel turned toward the room.
“The marriage started as a legal arrangement.”
Victoria’s eyes filled.
“But it stopped being that.”
The room went silent.
He took Victoria’s hand.
“I stayed because I wanted to.”
Margaret’s expression changed.
Victoria looked at Daniel.
“Daniel…”
He squeezed her hand.
“I meant it.”
Margaret’s voice turned cold.
“You think love makes you stronger?”
Daniel answered:
“No.”
He looked at Victoria.
“Trust does.”
Investigators arrested Margaret.
The CFO agreed to cooperate.
Blackwell Capital became the subject of a major federal investigation.
The board voted to keep Victoria as CEO.
But she wasn’t celebrating.
She stood outside the building, staring at the city.
Daniel joined her.
“You okay?”
“I don’t know.”
He waited.
She finally said:
“When this started, I thought I needed a husband.”
“You did.”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“I needed someone I could trust.”
He smiled.
“And?”
“I found you.”
Daniel’s expression softened.
Victoria whispered:
“The year isn’t over.”
“No.”
“It doesn’t have to end.”
He understood.
They had started with a contract.
Now they were standing somewhere neither had expected.
He reached for her hand.
She took it.
Then Lily ran outside.
“Dad!”
Daniel turned.
She hugged him.
Then looked at Victoria.
“You’re staying, right?”
Victoria smiled.
“Yes.”
“Good.”
Lily looked at Daniel.
“Does that mean the wedding can be real?”
Daniel laughed.
Victoria laughed.
Neither answered.
But they didn’t let go of each other’s hands.
