Billionaire Woman Went to a Party Dressed Poor—Everyone Rejected Her Except a Kindhearted Single Dad

Chapter 13

Three years later, Victoria no longer attended parties disguised as someone poor.

She didn’t need to.

She had already learned what she needed to know.

People treated you according to what they thought you could give them.

But there were exceptions.

Daniel had been one.

Lily had been another.

One Saturday, Victoria returned to the Sterling Grand.

Not for a gala.

For a charity event.

She saw a young woman at the entrance.

Simple clothes.

Old shoes.

An invitation in hand.

The doorman was refusing her entry.

Victoria watched.

Then walked over.

“What’s happening?”

The doorman answered:

“She doesn’t meet the dress standard.”

Victoria looked at the woman.

“What’s your name?”

“Emily.”

“Were you invited?”

“Yes.”

“Then she’s welcome.”

The doorman stepped aside.

Emily looked surprised.

“Thank you.”

Victoria smiled.

“Enjoy yourself.”

As she walked away, she saw Daniel watching.

He smiled.

“You remember.”

She nodded.

“How could I forget?”

He took her hand.

“You didn’t change the rules for one person.”

“No.”

“You changed the rules.”

Victoria smiled.

“Exactly.”

Lily joined them.

“Mom.”

Victoria looked at her.

“Yes?”

“Dad said I can adopt a puppy.”

Daniel protested.

“I said we’d discuss it.”

Lily grinned.

“Mom wins.”

Victoria laughed.

“Absolutely not.”

Daniel looked at her.

“You see?”

“What?”

“She already knows which parent is easier.”

Victoria shook her head.

They walked through the hotel together.

The same ballroom.

The same chandeliers.

The same people.

But Victoria was different.

She no longer needed to test anyone.

She knew who stayed.

Later that evening, Daniel found a note in her father’s old office.

He opened it.

It was another letter.

One neither of them had seen.

Victoria read over his shoulder.

It said:

If you are reading this together, then my greatest hope came true.

Victoria’s eyes filled.

I worried my daughter would mistake wealth for security.

I worried Daniel would mistake sacrifice for love.

I hoped you would teach each other better.

Daniel looked at Victoria.

The final line said:

Never forget the person who helped you before he knew your name.

Victoria smiled.

“He really knew.”

Daniel nodded.

Then he noticed a small code written beneath the signature.

A bank account.

A date.

And the words:

For Lily.

They stared.

“What is this?”

Victoria didn’t know.

They checked the account.

It had been established before Lily was born.

The balance was enormous.

Daniel’s eyes widened.

“My daughter has a trust?”

Victoria smiled.

“Apparently.”

“Why?”

They opened the final document.

The trust funded children of single parents.

School.

Medical care.

Housing.

Education.

A future.

Victoria looked at Daniel.

“This was your father too?”

“No.”

“Then who?”

Daniel stared at the signature.

It was Victoria’s father.

He had created the trust in Daniel’s daughter’s name before Daniel ever met Victoria.

He had known about Daniel’s family for years.

He had wanted to give Lily what his own daughter had.

Security.

Without strings.

Daniel wiped his eyes.

“He knew I was struggling.”

Victoria hugged him.

“He was trying to help.”

Daniel looked at the trust papers.

“I wish he’d told me.”

Victoria smiled.

“Maybe he knew you wouldn’t accept it.”

Daniel laughed.

“That sounds like me.”
